Job Description

HII is seeking a self-motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our team located in Syracuse, NY. This role requires collaboration with leads, engineers, and technicians promoting growth and development within the group. We are looking for a candidate who can learn and grow as part of the development, assembly, and manufacturing team of power, radar, and sensor devices for military applications. May provide input on requirements flow-down, concept creation, rapid-prototyping, mechanical design, environmental analysis, producibility analysis, or environmental testing. Works on technical projects requiring strong engineering or industry knowledge. Characteristics of a successful candidate include attention to detail, creativity, focus on expectations, willingness to learn outside comfort-zone, and have effective written & presentation skills.

Mechanical Engineer 1 - $64,000 - $95,000

Mechanical Engineer 2 - $80,000 - $115,000

Essential Job Responsibilities

  • Support engineering research, design, development, integration, and analysis of complex electro-mechanical products
  • Perform 3D modeling, 2D drafting, and computer aided simulations of concept designs
  • Create preliminary, draft, or final released technical data packages
  • Identify problems or deficiencies that shall require configuration or procedural changes
  • Analyze complex functions, procedures, and problems to find creative, logical, and effective solutions
  • Provide inputs to project peers and technical leads
  • Interface with vendors and customers
  • Comply with applicable AS9100 Quality procedures in the performance of duties
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned


Minimum Qualifications

  • Mechanical engineer 2 - 2 years relevant experience with bachelors in related field; 0 year's relevant experience with Masters in related field
  • Mechanical Engineer 1 - bachelors in related field
  • Proficient in 3D solid modeling such as SolidWorks or related SolidWorks
  • Familiarity in 2D drawings such as AutoCAD or related
  • Understanding of dynamic motion and thermal principles, calculations, and applications
  • Ability to obtain US security clearance


Preferred Requirements

  • Experience with:
    • Performing structural shock & vibration and thermal Finite Element Analysis (FEA) using tools such as Ansys Mechanical Workbench and Icepak, or related
    • Technical drawing creation in tools such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD
    • Interfacing with vendors and customers
    • SolidWorks PDM is a plus
  • Working Knowledge of:
    • ASME Y14.100, ASME Y14.5, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) standard practice
    • Military, ANSI, and IPC-620 standards
    • Metal and plastic fabrication processes and equipment
    • Cable harness assembly materials and methods
  • Active Secret Clearance
