Full Job Description
Design West Technologies (DWT) is a non-traditional aerospace and defense contractor that specializes in researching, developing, and manufacturing critical capabilities in support of national defense requirements. DWT is vertically integrated from research and development (R&D) to final assembly and testing offering a unique combination of electrical, chemical, and mechanical product development for weapons and countering weapons of mass destruction systems. Our team comprises passionate professionals dedicated to pushing the boundaries of what is possible in aerospace and defense.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to join our DWT Research team located in Tustin, California. We are looking for someone with drive, talent, and experience in new product development. The successful candidate will report to the Director, R&D Technology and be responsible for creating and validating mechanical designs, to support business operations and customer activities.

Key Job Duties:
  • After onboarding period, lead assigned programs for our customers, responsible for high quality, on time deliverables for two R&D projects
  • Understand program contractual requirements and milestone schedules.
  • Develop and assess conceptual designs, develop Technical Data Package (TDP), actively participate in prototyping, and testing to verify performance requirements and develop customer deliverables.
  • Participate, lead, and contribute to technology conceptualization, development, manufacturing, and validation
  • Understand, interpret, and actively use GD&T.
  • Develop and maintain program-specific Design Failure Mode and Effects Analyses (DFMEAs).
  • Develop and execute Design Verification including reviewing government validation requirement, creating test procedures, planning test equipment calibration and fixtures, perform internal engineering testing and write up formal test report as needed.
  • Work closely with interdisciplinary R&D team and other departments as required.
  • Support component and assembly builds from initial prototype through full production launch.

Experience/Skills Requirements:
  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or similar required. Advanced technical degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of engineering experience, preferably aerospace/automotive/ defense industries, graduate experience counted towards engineering experience.
  • Experience launching new models / products through certification and into production.
  • Advanced and recent SolidWorks knowledge. SolidWorks Simulation and Ansys experience preferred (FEA, CFD).
  • Experience in GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with testing (from test setup and calibration to writing test procedure and test report) strongly preferred.
  • Experience in working with Electrical Engineering team preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong presentation and interpersonal skills are required to enable an effective interface with other departments and/or professionals.
  • Technical background with understanding of military product developments, including military standards (MIL, etc.). Familiarity with DoD technical review process.
  • Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Possess the ability to obtain and maintain US Security Clearance
  • Minimal travel required
