Opportunity SummaryA venture-backed aerospace and defense startup is developing next-generation space-based interceptor systems designed to address emerging national security threats. The team is building advanced flight hardware that combines propulsion, structures, controls, and integrated vehicle systems with a strong emphasis on rapid development, testing, and real-world performance. This role is focused on hands-on mechanical engineering execution across interceptor structures, packaging, prototyping, integration, and test support. The engineer will contribute directly to the development of space-based interceptor (SBI) platforms from early concepts through hardware demonstration and iterative testing. This is an execution-heavy role ideal for someone who enjoys working closely with hardware in a fast-moving engineering environment.
Job Duties- Support the design and development of mechanical and structural systems for space-based interceptor platforms
- Create CAD models, assemblies, manufacturing drawings, and integration layouts
- Assist with vehicle packaging, mounting strategies, brackets, and subsystem integration
- Perform structural and mechanical analysis to support hardware reliability and survivability
- Support prototype builds, hardware integration, and assembly activities
- Participate in testing, troubleshooting, and iterative hardware improvements
- Work closely with propulsion, electrical, controls, and aerodynamic engineers during development activities
- Assist with material selection and manufacturing coordination for aerospace-grade hardware
- Interface with machine shops, fabrication vendors, and suppliers to support hardware production
- Build development fixtures, test setups, and prototype hardware as needed
- Contribute to hands-on machining, fabrication, and hardware modification efforts
Qualifications- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical field
- 3+ years of hands-on mechanical engineering experience
- Strong CAD experience with mechanical assemblies and integration work
- Experience supporting prototype development, hardware integration, or testing
- Familiarity with structural analysis and mechanical design fundamentals
- Experience working with aerospace-grade materials and manufacturing processes
- Comfortable working directly with hardware in a fast-paced engineering environment
- Strong communication and collaboration skills across technical teams
Preferred Experience- Experience supporting missiles, interceptors, UAVs, spacecraft, launch systems, or other aerospace hardware programs
- Hands-on machining or fabrication experience using manual or CNC equipment
- Familiarity with vibration, thermal, or environmental testing
- Experience working with external vendors and prototype manufacturing partners
- Exposure to high-performance or high-temperature mechanical systems
- Experience supporting rapid iteration hardware development programs
Compensation Details$110,000 - $150,000
