Job Overview & Responsibilities

As a Mechanical Engineer 2 at ULA's production facility in Decatur, AL, key responsibilities include:
  • Designing and implementing manufacturing processes, procedures, and planning for multiple build items in support of other assembly areas in the factory.
  • Designing sequence of operations and specific procedures for hardware in work center.
  • Inspecting performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency.
  • Investigates and initiates corrective action or problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality.
  • Providing guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques.
  • Ensuring processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations.
  • Collaborating with design engineers to ensure all products meet design requirements and can be manufactured efficiently.
  • Working with quality engineering and production operations to initiate corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality.
  • Troubleshooting to resolve manufacturing issues and keep production on schedule.
  • Work closely with technicians during the build process and supports process improvements.
  • Identifying and driving continuous improvement opportunities to completion.
  • Working collaboratively with multiple functions within the organization to perform job duties.
  • Implementing Manufacturing Bill of Materials (MBOM).

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical field from an accredited college or university.
  • Previous exposure to reading blueprints.
  • Understanding of geometrical, dimensioning, and tolerancing.
  • Attention to detail and good documentation of observations/findings.
  • Ability to work extended hours and/or weekends along with off shifts, as necessary to support testing and production delivery activities.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with aerospace hardware, working with cross-functional work groups, and presenting to external customers.
  • Exposure to manufacturing techniques and working with an hourly workforce.
  • Experience with ERP systems (Enterprise Resource Planning), preferably SAP.
