Role SummaryWe are seeking Mechanical Designer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for creating and refining mechanical equipment designs and layouts using advanced CAD tools, ensuring strict adherence to Corning Machine Drafting Standards. Your work will directly contribute to optimizing production systems, resolving design challenges, and delivering innovative solutions. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, exceptional problem-solving skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
Location- Wilmington, NC or Concord, NC
Key Responsibilities- Develop and deliver mechanical equipment designs and layouts using AutoCAD® and Inventor, ensuring compliance with Corning drafting standards.
- Produce and maintain detailed drawing packages, build packages, machine part lists, illustrations, and equipment specifications for production systems.
- Redesign mechanical components to reduce installation costs, resolve equipment interferences, and correct design deficiencies.
- Execute design changes to address equipment or process challenges, ensuring all designs meet functional and performance requirements.
- Provide detailed sketches and marked-up drawings to address evolving project needs.
Required Education & Skills- Associate's degree (AAS) in Mechanical Engineering Technology or a Bachelor's degree (BS) in Mechanical Engineering Technology or Mechanical Engineering.
- 2+ years of professional experience in mechanical design, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing setting. Ability to interpret electrical schematics and translate engineering solutions into equipment design requirements.
- Demonstrated commitment to job-site safety.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes, including machining and fabrication, to ensure efficient and practical designs.
Desired Skills- Highly motivated and results-oriented professional with excellent organizational skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing project requirements.
- Comfortable working in small teams and collaborating across departments to meet deadlines.
- Experience with precision measurement tools (e.g., tape measures, calipers, micrometers).
Travel Requirements- Occasional travel may be required to vendor locations to gather equipment-related information; travel is expected to be minimal.
- Travel will be required to Corning Optical Fiber and Cable Manufacturing sites in North Carolina.
Hours of Work/Work Schedule- 40 hours/week. Flexibility is required, with occasional overtime (10-20 hours per week) during peak project periods.
This position does not support immigration sponsorship. The range for this position is $80,984.00 - $111,353.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education.
