Full Job Description
JOB LOCATION: 10353 Richmond Ave., Houston, TX 77042 [and various unanticipated locations throughout the US; may telecommute] DUTIES: Support commissioning, operation, upgrades, and continuous improvement of automated spiral-welding equipment used in the production of large steel wind-tower structures. Identify, diagnose, and resolve mechanical and system-level issues affecting equipment performance, safety, and product quality. Perform mechanical design of large machine components, welded/structural assemblies, automated mechanisms, tooling, and test fixtures. Develop detailed 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings for complex mechanical assemblies and production tooling using SolidWorks (or similar CAD software). Apply mechanical engineering principles to model and analyze loads, motion, tolerances, and potential failure modes to inform design decisions. Develop test procedures and support execution of validation activities to confirm design performance and equipment reliability in a steel-fabrication/manufacturing environment. Document design decisions, test results, and engineering changes using standard engineering documentation and change-control practices. Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams including manufacturing, welding, product/tower design, and controls engineering to ensure equipment functionality meets manufacturing requirements and customer specifications. Provide engineering support to production areas by troubleshooting mechanical issues on tower-manufacturing equipment and implementing engineered corrective actions to maintain safe, efficient, and compliant fabrication processes. Apply experience in Mechanical design of machine components and assemblies in a manufacturing or industrial environment. Create 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings using SolidWorks or similar CAD software. Apply mechanical engineering fundamentals including statics, dynamics, materials, and tolerances to support design decisions. Support manufacturing/production operations through mechanical troubleshooting and implementation of engineered solutions. Develop or execute design validation activities including test fixtures, test procedures, documenting results, and documenting engineering changes. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Requires a Bachelor degree, or foreign equivalent degree, in Mechanical Engineering and 3 years of experience in the job offered or 3 years of experience in a related occupation applying experience in Mechanical design of machine components and assemblies in a manufacturing or industrial environment; creating 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings using SolidWorks or similar CAD software; applying mechanical engineering fundamentals including statics, dynamics, materials, and tolerances to support design decisions; supporting manufacturing/production operations through mechanical troubleshooting and implementation of engineered solutions; and developing or executing design validation activities including test fixtures, test procedures, documenting results and documenting engineering changes.
