Job Description

Precise Systems seeks a Materials Science Engineer to design, develop, and execute complex mechanical and environmental survivability test programs for naval and defense-related systems with U.S. Navy.

This role requires in-person support.

Duties:
  • Design, develop, and execute complex mechanical and environmental survivability test programs for naval and defense-related systems
  • Plan and conduct testing using servo-hydraulic, electro-mechanical, and other test systems
  • Develop test methodologies, instrumentation plans, procedures, and data acquisition strategies to support one-off testing
  • Analyze test results and provide technical assessments, recommendations, and formal reports
  • Work closely with Government, military, contractor, and academic partners to support research and development efforts
  • Support system qualification, technology maturation, and performance validation activities
  • Assist in the planning, management, and execution of research and test programs from concept through completion
  • Troubleshoot test equipment, instrumentation, and system performance issues
  • Contribute to technical proposals, project planning, and program execution efforts.

Required Education:
  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Ocean Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry or a related technical field.; with dissertation or thesis work related to experimental focused research project, such as in fatigue or fracture mechanics.

Required Experience:
  • Four (4) years' experience in an engineering materials testing, development, design, or evaluation environment
  • Experience designing and conducting mechanical, structural, corrosion, vibration, fatigue, durability, or survivability testing
  • Familiarity with servo-hydraulic test systems and associated instrumentation
  • Experience with data acquisition systems, sensors, stress-strain measurement, accelerometers, and test automation
  • Experience supporting government research, defense acquisition, or technology development programs
  • Ability to analyze complex technical data and communicate results effectively through reports and presentations
  • Experience leading projects or coordinating multidisciplinary technical teams is a plus.

Desired Experience:
  • Understanding fundamental metallurgical or materials science principles and their influence on material properties.
  • Experience with and knowledge of standard fatigue testing methods, fracture testing methods, stress- and strain-life approaches to fatigue for uniaxial and multiaxial cases, damage tolerance methods, durability and life assessment methodologies.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic test equipment and control software, such as MTS Systems.
    • This includes actuators, load cells, extensometers, operating in load, strain or displacement control, hydraulic pump operation and maintenance.
  • Experience with SEM fractography and other electron microscopy.
  • Experience utilizes basic metallography tools and procedures.
  • Experience with basic use of chemistry laboratory.
  • Results focused and willingness to take ownership and responsibility for project objectives and management.
  • Must be comfortable working in a collaborative environment with subject matter experts of various disciplines.
  • Creative self-starter with hands on bench experience.
  • Strong written, listening and communication skills.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. Due to the sensitivity of customer related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.
