Inside the Role

Are you passionate about ensuring operations run seamlessly and without interruption? We are seeking a highly motivated Materials & MRO Inventory Manager to lead the planning, control, and optimization of Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) materials across the Redford Campus and Detroit Logistics Center.

In this critical role, you will serve as the strategic owner of MRO inventory, ensuring maintenance, manufacturing, facilities, and operations teams have the right materials available at the right time while maintaining strong inventory controls, financial stewardship, and regulatory compliance. You will partner closely with Maintenance, Operations, Purchasing, Finance, Safety, and external service providers to drive material availability, inventory accuracy, cost optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives that support world-class manufacturing performance.

Position offers a starting salary range of $104,000 – $133,000 USD

What You Drive

MRO Inventory Management & Material Availability

  • Own and manage all Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) materials utilized at the Redford Campus and Detroit Logistics Center.
  • Ensure uninterrupted material availability to support maintenance, production, facilities, tooling, and operational requirements while minimizing inventory-related downtime risks.
  • Develop and execute inventory strategies that balance service levels, lead times, demand variability, and working capital objectives.
  • Monitor inventory health and proactively address shortages, excess inventory, obsolescence, and critical spare parts risks.
  • Establish and maintain appropriate reorder points, safety stock levels, min/max parameters, and replenishment strategies.

Inventory Control & Compliance

  • Maintain inventory valuation within established financial targets and business objectives.
  • Ensure inventory management practices comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and all applicable corporate policies.
  • Drive inventory accuracy through cycle counting, audits, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain inventory governance processes, material master data integrity, and inventory standard work.
  • Lead initiatives to improve inventory accuracy, material traceability, and inventory visibility across sites.

Supplier & Service Provider Management

  • Oversee performance and contractual compliance of MRO service providers and suppliers.
  • Monitor key performance indicators including service levels, fill rates, inventory accuracy, responsiveness, and cost performance.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and service providers to improve material availability, reduce lead times, and optimize inventory investments.
  • Support supplier performance reviews and corrective action plans when performance targets are not achieved.

Purchasing & Financial Stewardship

  • Partner with Global Indirect Purchasing (GIP) to ensure compliance with purchasing policies, sourcing strategies, approved suppliers, and negotiated pricing agreements.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce total cost of ownership through inventory optimization, standardization, and sourcing initiatives.
  • Support budget planning, forecasting, and inventory valuation reporting activities.
  • Analyze inventory trends and develop recommendations to improve inventory turns and working capital performance.

Operational Partnership & Continuous Improvement

  • Work closely with Maintenance, Manufacturing, Logistics, Finance, Safety, and Engineering teams to understand operational requirements and future material needs.
  • Utilize data analytics and performance metrics to identify improvement opportunities and support decision-making.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on inventory management, material flow, warehouse processes, and service excellence.
  • Support plant reliability and operational excellence initiatives through effective management of critical spare parts and consumable inventories.

Safety & Training

  • Ensure all MRO service providers adhere to company safety, environmental, and training requirements.
  • Promote safe material handling, storage, and inventory management practices.
  • Support compliance with regulatory, environmental, and workplace safety standards.

Knowledge You Should Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Operations Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Technical degrees require an MBA or significant Business Management experience.
  • Non-Technical Degrees require significant Manufacturing or Maintenance Experience
  • 5-7 years of experience in inventory management, supply chain, logistics, manufacturing operations, maintenance support, or materials management.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing, distribution, maintenance, or industrial environment.
  • Strong understanding of MRO inventory management principles, material planning, and inventory control methodologies.
  • Knowledge of maintenance, machining, assembly, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience managing supplier relationships and service provider performance.

Exceptional Candidates Might Have

  • APICS/ASCM CPIM, CSCP, or equivalent supply chain certification.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as MAXIMO, SAP, Oracle, or equivalent inventory management platforms.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and inventory optimization techniques.
  • Experience managing large-scale MRO inventories in a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with spare parts management and maintenance reliability practices.
