Job Title:Materials Manager

Department: Manufacturing

Reports To: Vice President of Operations

FLSA Status: Exempt

SUMMARY

Manages and coordinates activities of the Materials group, to include purchasing, traffic, and warehouse personnel engaged in storage and expediting flow of material, parts, and assemblies within or between departments, purchasing group, and of production coordinators engaged in scheduling production operations by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Reviews master production schedule, customer backlog status and production levels, and confers with upper management, marketing, engineering, finance, and other manufacturing staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
  • Manages supply chain by approving suppliers, tracking performance, and negotiating and approving any agreements with suppliers.
  • Actively seeks for positive purchase price variance through vendor contact, seeking new vendors, resourcing, and initiating long term agreements.
  • Prepares and monitors monthly shipping/dollar forecast.
  • Keeps close coordination and communication with the production, purchasing, materials, engineering, marketing, and financial departments to attain objectives on Company goals.
  • Prepares production schedules and ensures material availability.
  • Evaluates written data such as job orders, product specifications, parts and materials inventory lists, and machine and worker production rates to establish efficient allocation and scheduling of parts, materials, machines, and sequences of operations and workflow.
  • Confers with production personnel to resolve problems affecting production schedules, including the purchase of parts and/or planning/scheduling issues; monitors work procedures and schedules, and expedites workflow.
  • Develops and maintains an effective production control, purchasing, materials, and traffic organization through selection, training, and motivation of all personnel in departmental areas. Directs subordinates in the management of their assigned responsibilities, to ensure that they meet objectives and attain satisfactory operation and performance.
  • Complies with and conducts business in accordance with the letter, spirit, and intent of all relevant laws and regulations, policies, work procedures, instructions; wherefore, refrains from any illegal, dishonest, unethical conduct. Maintains communications with all employees, vendors, customers and others in a cooperative and professional manner, while treating them in with dignity, respect and courtesy.
  • Performs other related duties as required and may be assigned.

MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manages the activities of persons within the Materials group. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Company's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Provides superior leadership and support for the Materials group and the Company.

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION, SKILLS, and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Production Management, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field.
  • Work Experience: Eight (8) or more years' related experience in materials, production planning, and/or training.
  • Or, equivalent combination of education and experience.

In addition this position requires:
  • Strong problem solving and decision making skills.
  • Excellent computer skills with a high level of proficiency in Excel, along with knowledge in MAPICS, MRPII and RPG systems required.
  • Affiliation with APICS, CPIM, or CRM is highly desired.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • This position must meet "US Person" Export Control Requirements as defined by 22 CFR 120.62 - "US Person means a person who is a lawful permanent resident as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1101(a)(20) or who is a protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)." Or a successful foreign person candidate must be eligible to obtain any required export authorizations."
