Job Title: Materials Engineer

Working Pattern: Full time

Working location: Indianapolis, IN/Hybrid (3 days week onsite avg.)

We have a great opportunity for a talented engineer to join the Rolls-Royce team as a Materials Specialist. As a Materials Specialist, you will participate in materials development activities as well as support multi-disciplinary engineering teams on technology and product development programs. This role supports the entire product life cycle, from concept generation and evaluation to in-service support.

What you will be doing
  • Perform analysis of materials test and design data
  • Manage test programs to demonstrate and validate a wide variety of material properties, including testing performed at external vendors
  • Perform work related to the development of new materials, including formulation, evaluation, and maturation from concept to product
  • Recommend materials selection and validation approaches as part of larger component design and test projects
  • Review technical drawings to ensure compliance with materials engineering standards and specifications
  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplinary engineering team for the design of aerospace components
  • Continued personal development is encouraged through one-on-one mentoring, attendance at industry conferences, and participation in specialized technical short courses

Basic Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, or Chemistry along with 1+ years of experience, OR
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Physics, or Chemistry, OR
  • JD/PhD in Engineering, Physics, or Chemistry

Preferred Requirements:
  • Strong academic background in materials science
  • Ability to apply knowledge of material / component analysis and condition assessment techniques
  • Data analysis and statistical methods
  • Familiarity with common software tools such as MATLAB and JMP
  • Experience with metals, ceramics, coatings, and/or additive layer manufacturing
  • Enthusiasm for low-maturity projects with a number of unknowns
