Salary: $51.66 Per Hour

Job Summary:

Ensure optimal climate control, equipment reliability, and mission-critical system performance at the United States Naval Observatory (USNO) in Washington, DC. As DAWSON's HVAC Technician, you will conduct diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance for a variety of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) systems that support sensitive government operations. Your expertise will contribute to consistent environmental conditions and secure facility operations.

Location: Washington, DC

Responsibilities:
  • Perform troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of HVAC/R systems including air handlers, split systems, rooftop units, chillers, and CRAC units.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance in accordance with OEM guidance and contract requirements.
  • Identify and repair electrical and mechanical faults using test instruments such as gauges, meters, and multimeters.
  • Recover, evacuate, and recharge refrigerant systems in compliance with EPA Section 608 requirements.
  • Monitor and respond to alarms through building automation and control systems (BAS/DDC).
  • Maintain service logs, parts usage, and work order documentation in a CMMS platform.
  • Support installation and commissioning of HVAC equipment and control upgrades.
  • Collaborate with team members to resolve system performance issues efficiently.
  • Follow OSHA, NEC, EPA, and mechanical code standards at all times.
  • Perform general facility maintenance duties as needed, which may include tasks such as inspecting and cleaning roof drains, checking and clearing floor drains, inspecting drinking fountains, removing minor debris, replacing ceiling tiles, or responding to basic service calls outside of HVAC scope.

Qualifications:
  • Shall possess at least five (5) years of recent experience maintaining and repairing commercial or institutional HVAC/R systems.
  • Active TS/SCI security clearance and government suitability screening.
  • Universal EPA 608 Certification required.
  • Valid Master HVAC license in Washington, DC, Virginia, or Maryland.
  • Proficient in mechanical/electrical troubleshooting, refrigerant handling, and BAS/DDC operations.
  • Ability to read technical drawings, wiring diagrams, and service manuals.
  • Experience servicing Computer Room Air Conditioning (CRAC) units preferred.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, use ladders, and work in confined or elevated areas.
  • Strong documentation, time management, and communication skills.
  • HVAC trade certification or technical school completion preferred.
