Full Job Description
Role Overview:

The Marketing Strategist, eCommerce is a hybrid strategist and practitioner who understands how brands win in the eCommerce environment and knows how to turn that strategy into excellent work.

You'll bring deep working knowledge of the digital shelf, including retailer PDPs, eCommerce content, SEO and emerging AEO best practices and content performance. You understand the role eCommerce plays within a broader brand ecosystem and are able to advise clients on how their brand should show up across retailer and owned commerce environments, and what success looks like when it gets there.

This is a hands-on role where you'll own digital shelf work from strategy and annual planning through asset mapping, briefing, content development, auditing and optimization. You should be equally comfortable developing a point of view on a brand's digital shelf presence and getting into the details of an individual PDP to make it better.

You'll also help clients improve how eCommerce work gets done. You'll manage cross-functional stakeholders, build and operationalize workflows, support the adoption of new tools and technology, and help teams navigate process change with greater visibility, ownership and accountability.

Within Indie's Strategy team, you'll serve as a subject matter expert in eCommerce and digital shelf, bringing channel expertise into broader brand, content and go-to-market engagements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • eCommerce & Digital Shelf Strategy
    • Serve as a subject matter expert on eCommerce and digital shelf strategy across Indie client engagements, with particular depth in CPG.
    • Advise clients on how brands should show up across retailer PDPs, brand stores, D2C sites and other digital commerce environments.
    • Conduct digital shelf, competitive and category audits to identify gaps, opportunities and optimization priorities.
    • Develop clear recommendations for improving product discoverability, brand storytelling, shopper experience and conversion.
    • Understand the role of eCommerce within the broader marketing ecosystem and connect digital shelf recommendations back to brand strategy, consumer needs and business objectives.
    • Define and apply best practices for PDP architecture, written and visual content, retailer-specific execution and measurement.
  • eContent Strategy & Execution
    • Own the end-to-end ecomm content lifecycle for CPG clients annual planning and asset mapping through briefing, adaptation, and ongoing optimization.
    • Translate brand strategy, campaign creative and product priorities into retailer-ready eCommerce content.
    • Develop and manage content across the full digital shelf ecosystem, including titles, Search Keyword Lists, bullets, product descriptions, supplementary imagery, Amazon A+ Premium content, brand stores and retailer media assets.
    • Create clear, production-ready briefs for creative teams, photographers, agencies and content partners.
    • Partner with brand teams to identify ecomm content needs upstream in campaign and innovation planning, ensuring required assets are captured and ready for downstream execution.
    • Use performance data, competitive intelligence and search insights to continuously improve content.
  • SEO, AEO & Discoverability
    • Apply SEO principles to eCommerce content, including keyword strategy, product naming, metadata, content architecture and retailer search optimization.
    • Bring a working knowledge of Answer Engine Optimization and emerging AI-driven commerce, understanding how structured product content influences discoverability across traditional search, retailer algorithms, AI-generated answers and emerging shopping experiences.
    • Stay current on evolving retailer algorithms, search behaviors, platform requirements and AI-enabled commerce tools.
  • Marketing Operations & Transformation
    • Manage complex workstreams across brand teams, creative partners, retail media, and other cross-functional stakeholders.
    • Help operationalize improved processes that improve visibility, ownership, accountability and speed.
    • Establish clear workflows, roles, milestones, review cycles and quality standards to keep work moving on time and on brief.
    • Support clients through process and technology change, helping teams adopt new tools, workflows and ways of working.
    • Identify operational bottlenecks and recommend practical solutions that improve efficiency without sacrificing content quality.
    • Explore and integrate AI and emerging technology where it can meaningfully improve ecomm workflows.
  • Client and Team Collaboration
    • Own day-to-day client relationships, leading meetings, working sessions and status conversations with confidence.
    • Partner closely with Indie Strategy, Creative and Activation teams to ensure eCommerce thinking is integrated into broader client work.
    • Provide guidance and quality oversight to team members supporting digital shelf engagements.
    • Bring an eCommerce lens into broader Indie strategy engagements when clients are navigating PDP, website, D2C, digital shelf or commerce-content challenges.
  • Operate with Ownership & Strategic Judgment
    • Identify risks early and lead the development of practical, creative solutions
    • Make informed decisions that balance client success, team capacity, and operational realities
    • Maintain a high bar for quality, clarity, and follow-through in all work
