Full Job Description
Leidos' Defense Sector Manufacturing is seeking a Manufacturing Systems Engineer to join our defense sector manufacturing support team located in Huntsville, AL. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to oversee standardization of our Solumina MES (Manufacturing Execution System) as well as develop analytics to create KPI's and dashboards for monitoring our success.

The successful candidate will need to have several years of experience with a Manufacturing Execution System, and they need to have the right personality to work with the production teams to make sure their needs are identified and captured in the SOP's. The candidate will also be an SME that helps train our 60 plus ME's across our manufacturing facilities. As these standard processes continue to develop, this person will then be responsible for training and adherence.

This role will set MES standards across our 5+ manufacturing facilities with respect to: process plan templates, operation dependencies guidance, data collection methods, discrepancy procedures, serialization, runtime/set-up time methodology on routings, etc. This is a key role in enabling our defense sector to scale the business with standard processes in our Solumina MES, Windchill, and CostPoint systems.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Managing Manufacturing Orders to meet project schedules.
  • Implementing procedures & techniques to transform raw materials into finished products efficiently and effectively.
  • Use of MES software (Solumina) to implement, track, monitor, and control manufacturing processes, ensuring quality, efficiency, and compliance.
  • Generation and maintenance of Manufacturing Bill of Materials (mBOMS).
  • Generate routings inside Solumina to account for accurate run times.
  • Identify and execute on continuous improvement projects.
  • Identify and reduce risks in the production processes.
  • Plan and maintain production flow through MRP system, including change management and make/buy designation.
  • Responsible for executing Configuration & Data Management processes & controls for managing & tracking changes.
  • Defines manufacturing processes, procedures and production flow for assembly, integration & test of space products.
  • Coordinate production workflow for one or multiple projects. Organize and schedule production activities, and resources; including materials, equipment, and personnel, to meet production goals.to meet production targets.
  • Resolve problems related to production jobs such as configuration changes, engineering changes, material issues, schedule priority, etc.
  • Monitor production status of jobs to ensure they meet schedule requirements & report job status to management using spreadsheets, custom reports, etc.
  • Overseeing & optimizing the production process, from raw materials to finished products, to ensure efficiency and quality.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Quality Assurance, Operations Leads, and Inventory Control.
  • Expedite jobs as required & clearing any material Shortages.
  • Manage ISO9001/AS9100 processes within our department.


Basic Qualifications
  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Electrical Engineering from an accredited university and 4 to 8 years prior relevant experience or a Masters with 2 to 6 years of prior relevant experience in an engineering field.
  • Demonstrated experience with serialized components requiring non-conformance dispositioning.
  • Hands-on experience in Costpoint along with a thorough understanding of ECN's, effectivity dates and substitutions, as well as PLM/ERP/MES software interactions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all members of Production and Analytics teams, including drafting SOW's to develop KPI reports.
  • 4+ years of experience with Manufacturing, Assembly & Integration experience with electrical, electromechanical, structural, and/or mechanical components
  • Must be capable of performing in a collaborative engineering environment working closely with multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience with phantom/synthetic items on mBOM's and understanding how they impact MRP.
  • Expertise in developing training material and training end users.
  • Familiarity with unit of measure conversion challenges and how to overcome.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Candidate must be a resident of the North Alabama area or willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama, AL area.
  • Candidate must be a US Citizen and possess or be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to query your own data and perform your own analysis using Excel VBA, Power BI, or SQL.
  • Experience in modern digital engineering tools such as JIRA, Confluence, Agile, and Scrum.
  • MRP experience with unit of measure conversions and different order policies.
  • Industry 4.0 and IIoT methods for electronically performing data collection into the MES software to poka-yoke the processes and satisfy product traceability requirements.
  • Experience with manufacturing, assembly, integration & test processes, procedure development & implementation.
  • Experience with utilizing MRP and experience with ERP/PLM/MES systems (Deltek, Costpoint, Solumina, Windchill).
  • Experience with ISO9001/AS9100 processes.
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.

Pay Range:
Pay Range $73,450.00 - $132,775.00
