What You Will Do

The Smart Factory & Digital Transformation Group is seeking a highly motivated First Line Manager to support important national security missions at LANL. PSS-5's primary core functions are to facility the Digital Transformation of ALDWP operations and establish an integrated Smart Factory.

The Manufacturing Support Manager 3, First Line Manager (FLM), will report to the Group Leader and will provide management and leadership to the Architecture and Planning team. The FLM will have the responsibility, authority, and accountability to execute work that supports programmatic milestones and deliverables while setting standards for professional behavior.

The successful candidate will have effective time management skills and the ability to deal effectively with changing priorities and conflicting demands. They will also have effective teamwork in accomplishing objectives, including mentoring and motiving peers.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Plan, organize, and define strategic IT architecture objectives.
  • Establish scope, schedule, and budget through work package development, resource, and performance management, and ensure worker qualification and authorization.
  • Deliver quality architecture solutions, enforce adherence to quality standards, and achieve balance between the need to meet both productivity goals and quality standards.
  • Work with facility operations staff to execute work safely, securely, with quality, and in compliance with nuclear facility requirements.
  • Ensure direct daily oversight of work, workers, and the work environment.
  • Report ongoing communications with line management on work status, deliverables, and commitments.
  • Direct and oversee work performed by employees including "on the floor" supervision.
  • Provide financial stewardship over budget, procurement, time and labor, travel, and property.

Salary Range: While the posted salary range for this position is broad, it is highly unusual for selected applicants to be hired at the top end of the range and more common for selected candidates to grow into the full salary band over time.

What You Need

  • Education/Experience: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in a related field from an accredited institution and 5 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

    • Demonstrated record of successful technical leadership and proven ability in supervising, resolving conflicts, administering discipline, mentoring, team building, managing staff requirements, motivating employees, and developing personnel such as students and/or early career scientists and engineers.
  • Knowledge and Expertise:
    • Experience directly related to information technology and operational technology within manufacturing.
    • Demonstrated experience in developing work scope, schedules, budgets, and coordinating work activities.
    • Experienced in planning and managing tactical execution of work, tracking, and reporting progress.
    • Demonstrated experience with manufacturing and industry 4.0 objectives.
    • Demonstrated experience leading digital transformation initiatives.
  • Accountability:
    • Experienced in working with confidential or proprietary information, classified documents, or sensitive information.
  • Communication:
    • Demonstrated effective written and oral communication skills, as evidenced by internal and/or external interactions, seminars, briefings, presentations, and publications.
    • Possesses strong interpersonal skills and demonstrates the ability to interact with all levels of personnel and customers.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience in project and program management, including planning, organizing, and resource management (e.g., defining work unit objectives and tasks in alignment with organizational objectives, and tracking and reporting on progress).
  • Demonstrated experience developing, implementing, and integrating systems for process improvements in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Experience with agile frameworks such as scrum and Conduct of Operations planning and execution.
  • Experience with utilizing and integrating with cloud technologies such as AWS and SAP.
  • Experience with IT/OT integration technologies.

Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Work Schedule: This position may/will require 24/7 coverage, which could/will involve working a shift/weekend schedule. Employees may be eligible for the shift differential pay when assigned by their manager. Shift/weekend assignments are at the discretion of the manager.

Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2: Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is pro-rated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
