What You Will Do

The Plutonium Supply and Disposition Division (PSD) is seeking highly motivated Manufacturing Managers to support national security missions in PSD-4 (Material Recovery and Recycle) and PSD-3 (Advanced Recovery and Integrated Extraction System, ARIES). These positions provide operational leadership, oversight, workforce development, and mission execution in a nuclear facility environment.

Successful candidates will collaborate with Group Leaders and partner closely with FLMs, MM-1s, peers across the Division, facility operations, and technical teams. These positions require ensuring safe, secure, high-quality performance in support of complex, high-hazard plutonium operations.

PSD-4 - Material Recovery and Recycle

• PSD-4 processes plutonium, uranium, and other actinide materials to meet national program requirements while advancing the scientific and engineering foundation for future mission needs.
• The Manufacturing Manager will lead multidisciplinary technical teams engaged in material identification, characterization, surveillance, and related research and development activities, ensuring effective execution of program milestones.

PSD-3 - ARIES

• PSD-3 supports ARIES pit disassembly, metal conversion, oxide stabilization, packaging, analytical support, and nuclear material recovery operations that contribute directly to stockpile sustainment and national security research.
• The Manufacturing Manager will support mission-critical nuclear processing, packaging, analytical, and production activities while partnering with management to guide strategic planning, program development, workforce management, and operational excellence.

PSD-5 -Aqueous Recovery and Purification Operations

• PSD-5 the Aqueous Recovery and Purification Operations Group within the Plutonium Supply and Disposition (PSD) Division, supports critical national security missions at Los Alamos National Laboratory. The group plays an essential role in plutonium metal production, nuclear material recovery and recycle, and aqueous purification operations that sustain the Laboratory's plutonium enterprise. PSD-5 supports Material Recovery & Recycle (MR&R), the Los Alamos Plutonium Pit Production Project (LAP4) modernization efforts, and Americium production for U.S. well logging applications. Through this mission-focused work, PSD-5 helps enable the future of plutonium operations while contributing to the development of the next generation of nuclear engineers and scientists.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities for both positions include, but are not limited to:

• Plan, organize, and execute work to meet mission objectives
• Establish work scope, schedules, and budgets
• Ensure staff qualification, authorization, and readiness for assigned work
• Provide daily oversight of work, workers, and the work environment
• Ensure work is performed safely, securely, with quality, and in compliance with nuclear facility requirements
• Maintain administrative and operating procedures and ensure requirements are understood before work release
• Serve as responsible line manager for personnel, equipment, and processes
• Communicate work status, deliverables, issues, and commitments to line management
• Direct and oversee employee work, including floor-level supervision
• Mentor, motivate, and develop staff
• Provide stewardship for budget, procurement, labor, travel, and property
• Partner effectively with facility operations staff, leadership, peers, and customers

Additional PSD-4 Responsibilities

• Lead science and engineering teams supporting material identification, characterization, and surveillance
• Execute technical and research work in support of programmatic deliverables
• Advance excellence and operational effectiveness in a nuclear R&D environment

Additional PSD-3 Responsibilities

• Support ARIES and MR&R manufacturing, processing, and recovery operations
• Contribute to development activities aligned with division strategy and mission needs
• Obtain and maintain Fissile Material Handler Supervisor qualification

Additional PSD-5 Responsibilities

• Lead aqueous processes for the purification of special nuclear material
• Leverage strong chemistry background to drive successful outcomes in recovery operations.

Desired Qualifications

• Experience with nuclear high hazard facility operations
• Experience with safety authorization basis and/or Conduct of Operations
• Multidisciplinary team experience
• Actinide chemistry, recovery, metallurgy, or manufacturing experience
• Glovebox Operator and FMH certification desirable

Minimum Job Requirements:

• Experience managing people and/or projects, including planning, organizing, resource management, scope and schedule development, budget planning, coordination of work, and progress tracking.

Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree in a related field and 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

DOE Order Requirements: 426.2A: Position requires a bachelor's degree in engineering, science, or technology and at least 4 years nuclear experience.

Ability to obtain and keep DOE Q clearance and HRP certification.

Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Position Commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). The selected applicants will be subject to a federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matters. This position requires a Q clearance which requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon position, additional authorization to access nuclear weapons information may be required that may or may not be available to dual citizens depending upon the circumstances.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include ongoing drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.

426.2a: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2a, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.
