Full Job Description
Daikin Applied is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer. This role will provide engineering support for the Compressor Manufacturing line. The Manufacturing Engineer will be responsible for new product launches, supporting all current production processes, and leading projects related to compressor manufacturing. In this role, you will ensure that processes are designed and optimized for efficient flow and world-class quality output.

Location: Staunton, VA - On-site

Your Responsibilities:
  • Participate in continuous improvement and cost reduction initiatives by supporting the management team with manufacturing engineering expertise, serving as a team lead or active team member on process improvement efforts.
  • Utilize work measurement tools to analyze work samples and establish labor standards, estimate production times, determine staffing requirements, and evaluate related costs to support management decision-making.
  • Analyze operational data, including workforce utilization, facility layout, and workflow, and apply lean manufacturing principles to optimize equipment and workspace effectiveness. Actively participate in (and occasionally lead) kaizen events to drive continuous improvement.
  • Recommend methods to improve worker effectiveness, safety, and quality while minimizing costs through job duty restructuring, workflow optimization based on PDS principles, and effective equipment management.
  • Collaborate with management to develop and maintain work instructions, training checklists, and skills matrices. Partner with the Safety Manager to enhance safety procedures and ergonomics within manufacturing operations.
  • Support manufacturability in new product development by collaborating with cross-functional design teams, defining production processes, estimating costs, and providing manufacturing support to NPI teams (e.g., PFMEA, process flow development, tool and fixture design).
  • Develop equipment design specifications, solicit vendor quotes, and recommend equipment purchases to enhance manufacturing processes.
  • Evaluate capital equipment investment options, prepare funding requests for small- and medium-sized capital projects, provide purchase recommendations, and oversee project execution through completion.
  • Lead efforts to ensure the timely and accurate completion of Job Skill Knowledge (JSK) evaluations for hourly personnel.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in lean tools and methodologies, including root cause analysis, PDCA, Kaizen, and 5S


Your Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent technical, scientific, or engineering degree
  • 3+ years of related mechanical or industrial engineering experience
  • Experience with sheet metal fabrication and assembly using state-of-the-art manufacturing processes, including cellular manufacturing and Demand Flow Technology
  • Experience with SolidWorks, AutoCAD 2D, MS Office, MS Project


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Compressor manufacturing engineering experience
  • High-speed machinery manufacturing engineering experience
  • HVAC industry experience

The typical annual base salary for this position ranges from $74,200 - $124,300 in Virginia. The range displayed represents the pay range for all positions in the job grade in which this position falls. Individual base pay will depend on a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
