Full Job Description
The Manufacturing Engineer provides day-to-day technical support to the manufacturing operations to enable the department to meet planned objectives related to safety, environmental, quality, production and cost. Manufacturing Engineers are primarily responsible for assisting the manufacturing team in solving operational problems, participating in HAZOPs, weekend duty/trial support, and optimizing unit processes/operations.. This is a salaried exempt, day shift position. It is classified as a Safety Critical role.

Key job responsibilities include:
  • Primary responsibility is to work with Operators and other functional groups to optimize plant operations and drive continuous improvement consistent with Unit goals and Company strategy
  • Tracks performance vs target, investigates deviations and implements solutions in a timely manner
  • Utilize other resources to troubleshoot production issues and work toward resolution in a collaborative and effective manner
  • Ensures compliance with main work processes, evaluates and improves existing processes and develops new processes as necessary
  • Coordinates all trial activity with R&D and the operating unit
  • Works with outside vendors in performing hygiene audits of the TiCl4 plant
  • On call availability to assist operations in troubleshooting, calculating releases, etc.
  • Offer technical assistance for QSI's, PCP's, and SOP's. Edit procedures for new processes or RFC changes as needed
  • Represent operating unit on trial teams, reliability teams, and attend HAZOP's
  • Provide statistical analysis for process improvements
  • Investigate reasons for downtime/failures, assists in the identification of root causes and development/implementation of technical solutions
  • Assist with unit SAP recipes
  • Other duties as assigned

About you:

You should possess:
  • A Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering required; preferably in Chemical Engineering
  • Possess a minimum of five (5) years of related chemical engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Knowledge of the various unit operations including: chemical reactors, distillation, heat transfer, evaporation, drying, milling, filtration, pumping, fluid flow, material handling and support services. A background in TiCl4 and TiO2 manufacturing a plus
  • Understand what Flow Diagrams and Process and Instrument Diagrams are and how they relate to process changes, upgrades and new installations
  • Be able to use analytical processes (appraise a situation, develop supporting plans, make decisions, generate innovative ideas, analyze and troubleshoot operational problems); Six Sigma training a plus
  • Working knowledge of chemical/industrial equipment function, design, and regulatory requirements and Process Safety Management and ISO systems and procedures
  • Understand test methods and pilot plant philosophy
  • Functionality with various computer programs, specifically Microsoft Office Suite and SAP
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with all levels of employees
