Job Description

The Manufacturing Engineer will support the development and manufacturing of lithium-ion cells, focusing on documenting the current process of record, working with other Engineers and Technicians to identify areas for improvement, conducting experiments to validate identified solutions, and implementing those solutions alongside Operations, Engineering, and Maintenance staff. This role requires experience with standardized manufacturing practices, a willingness to understand 'why' something is, and the ability to coordinate improvements with cross-functional teams. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing, improving, and maintaining the processes critical to lithium-ion cell production.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Responsible for leading process development, optimization and scale-up activities for the manufacturing of li-ion cells and their upstream sub-assemblies
  • Lead planning and installation of new manufacturing equipment and qualification processes.
  • Map, document, and analyze existing processes to understand current workflows, identify inefficiencies, and provide actionable insights for optimization which allows for efficiency, quality, scalability, and waste reduction
  • Collect, interpret, and analyze data to identify trends and areas for continuous process improvement
  • Supports process improvement initiatives and projects. Leads initiatives as assigned; Audit and report on the effectiveness of previously implemented improvements
  • Inform and train affected technicians on new processes
  • Develop and execute test plans and cases to validate changes, ensuring they meet requirements and expectations. Report on testing outcomes and recommend adjustments as necessary
  • Provide feedback to design engineering in regard to manufacturability and assembly (DFM/DFA) of core EnPower products


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in related engineering, science, or related technical field. Relevant work experience can be substituted in lieu of a degree with knowledge of basic engineering principles
  • 5+ years of experience working in a fast-paced, hands-on manufacturing environment (preferably in lithium-ion cell or battery manufacturing), specifically related to process development, root cause analysis and continuous improvement
  • Familiarity with, or knowledge of, any of the following areas of lithium-ion manufacturing preferred - powder handling, mixing, roll to roll slot die, comma or gravure coating, slitting and calandering,
  • Experience with curing of thin-film products, packaging, or plant material flow optimization is a plus
  • Experience writing process documentation to record the process of record (work instructions, control plans, PFMEAs, etc)
  • Strong analysis and problem-solving skills, including root cause analysis (8D or 5Why) and problem-solving tools (PDCA)
  • Ability to identify manufacturing difficulties and possible solutions for multiple processes
  • Excellent cross-functional communication and teamwork skills, working primarily with engineers and technicians; Excellent project management skills.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing equipment and quality assurance techniques and processes.
  • Commitment to health and safety standards and environmental regulations.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. and perform the following for extended periods of time: standing or sitting, climbing/squatting/walking, repetitive motions and lifting
