Manager, Transmission Portfolio Strategy & Execution

The Manager, Transmission Portfolio Strategy & Execution leads a team responsible for planning, governing, and managing FirstEnergy's Transmission Capital Portfolio, including the development of the five-year capital plan (approximately $3B annually) while overseeing the technical review, financial approval, and execution release of the annual portfolio.

This role provides strategic leadership for portfolio planning, forecasting, risk management, resource alignment, and process improvement. The successful candidate will collaborate with stakeholders across Engineering, Asset Management, Planning, Finance, Rates, Environmental, IT Networks, and Operating Companies to ensure portfolio investments support business objectives, regulatory requirements, and long-term system needs.

This position will be located in Akron, OH.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of portfolio management professionals.
  • Foster an environment that promotes employee engagement, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Facilitate and lead discussions with stakeholder groups to evaluate, prioritize, and onboard projects into the long-term capital plan.
  • Ensure portfolio investments align with long-term strategic objectives, regulatory requirements, and asset management plans.
  • Balance portfolio priorities to support evolving business needs while maintaining alignment with approved long-range plans.
  • Coordinate the development and execution release of projects from initiation to project design and construction.
  • Establish and maintain portfolio controls, analytics, performance metrics, and reporting for the Transmission Capital Portfolio.
  • Support forecasting of investments, labor, contractor, equipment, and material requirements.
  • Ensure effective project change management is followed, documented, properly incorporated into the transmission portfolio.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in project, program, engineering, or portfolio management; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex portfolios, programs, or large-scale capital projects.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Engineering design, project scoping & estimating, transmission planning, or project management experience is preferred.
  • Strong project management, forecasting, and analytical skills.
  • Experience with Primavera, EcoSys, Oracle OPPM / Unifier, MS PowerBI or similar portfolio management tools preferred.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and leadership capabilities.
