UPM Pulp in North America is looking for a Manager, Technical Service to join their team. The position will be remote/home office-based in the United States.

What you will do

UPM Pulp's global Technical Marketing and Customer Service Team works closely with pulp customers in hands-on development projects and problem-solving issues. Your main task is to work proactively on technical topics with our current and potential pulp customers:
  • Build trusted technical relationships, influence customer decisions with value-based recommendations and lead qualification efforts to support strategic sales growth in North America.
  • Represent UPM strategically with mill teams, technical leaders, commercial stakeholders, and executive decision makers.
  • Support successful use of UPM Pulp products through technical knowledge of multiple fibers and various end uses (premium tissue end use focus).
  • Drive technical collaborations with customers to deliver optimization in their process
  • Translate technical findings into clear business implications that support customer value creation and UPM's commercial objectives.
  • Collaborate with UPM mills, R&D, product managers, commercial teams, and the global TMS organization to bring the right expertise to customer projects.
  • Stay close to customers and the market to understand tissue technology, quality development, new product needs, and competitive dynamics.
  • Travel extensively across North America to support customer visits, mill trials, technical audits, troubleshooting projects, and industry events. (40% travel)


Who you are
  • You have bachelor's degree, in engineering, Paper and Pulp Technology or equivalent.
  • You possess 5 years of hands-on premium tissue production, product development, tissue chemical or equipment supplier experience.
  • Have experience with structured or advanced premium tissue technologies, such as TAD or similar platforms.
  • You are a strong customer-facing technical communicator who can influence mill teams, technical leaders, commercial stakeholders, and executive audiences.
  • You can translate complex technical recommendations into clear business value, including implications for cost, quality, efficiency, runnability, and sustainability.
  • You have a commercial mindset and understand how technical service supports account development and strategic sales growth.
  • Your work is customer centric, and you are determined to maintain excellent professional relations with clients based on transparency and trust.
  • You are fluent both in spoken and written English.
  • You are self-motivated, collaborative, proactive, and willing to travel extensively.

Salary range: 126,000 to 163,000 USD / year based on qualifications and experience
