Full Job Description
The Position:

Veracyte is seeking an experienced Manager, Software Test Automation, to lead our Quality Engineering Platform team. This team's mission is to enable every product engineering team to own software quality by providing scalable automation frameworks, self-service testing platforms, AI-assisted quality tools, and engineering best practices that accelerate software delivery while improving reliability, security, and compliance.

Rather than functioning as a traditional QA organization, the Quality Engineering Platform team partners with Software Engineering, Product Management, CloudOps, Data & AI, Laboratory Operations, and DevOps to build quality into every stage of the software development lifecycle. The team develops reusable automation platforms, testing infrastructure, quality metrics, and AI-enabled engineering capabilities that allow product teams to continuously validate cloud-native applications, APIs, enterprise integrations, laboratory workflows, and AI-powered solutions.

As the Manager, Software Test Automation you will define Veracyte's quality engineering strategy, establish modern engineering practices, and lead a team of Software Development Engineers in Test (SDETs), Automation Engineers, and Quality Platform Engineers responsible for enabling engineering excellence across the organization.

The ideal candidate is a technical leader passionate about developer productivity, platform engineering, intelligent automation, and building a culture where quality is owned by every engineering team. This is a hybrid role in San Diego, CA

Key Responsibilities:
Engineering Leadership
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing Quality Engineering Platform team.
  • Define and execute the long-term strategy for quality engineering, automation, and developer enablement.
  • Build an engineering culture focused on innovation, continuous improvement, ownership, and operational excellence.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain exceptional engineering talent while fostering career growth and technical leadership.
Quality Engineering Platform
  • Build and evolve self-service quality engineering platforms that enable product teams to independently validate their software.
  • Develop scalable automation frameworks supporting unit, integration, API, UI, end-to-end, regression, performance, security, and compliance testing.
  • Create reusable testing libraries, tooling, templates, and CI/CD integrations that standardize quality practices across engineering.
  • Define quality engineering standards, reference architectures, and best practices adopted across development teams.
  • Enable continuous verification through automated quality gates, production validation, synthetic monitoring, and release health checks.
AI-Enabled Quality Engineering
  • Define Veracyte's strategy for leveraging AI throughout the software testing lifecycle.
  • Build AI-assisted capabilities for automated test generation, regression analysis, defect classification, release risk assessment, test maintenance, and synthetic test data creation.
  • Partner with Data & AI teams to develop validation strategies for AI-powered products, including LLM evaluation, prompt regression testing, model monitoring, and human-in-the-loop verification.
  • Evaluate and adopt emerging AI technologies that improve engineering productivity and software quality.
Developer Enablement
  • Partner with Software Engineering teams to embed quality throughout the software development lifecycle using shift-left and shift-right engineering practices.
  • Coach engineering teams on automation strategies, testing best practices, and quality ownership.
  • Provide consulting, tooling, and technical guidance that enables product teams to deliver software with confidence.
  • Partner with DevOps and CloudOps to integrate quality engineering into modern CI/CD pipelines and cloud-native delivery platforms.
Operational Excellence
  • Establish engineering metrics that measure software quality, automation effectiveness, developer productivity, release confidence, platform adoption, and customer impact.
  • Drive observability, defect prevention, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure software validation activities support regulatory requirements applicable to healthcare diagnostics, including HIPAA, CAP/CLIA, and FDA software quality expectations where appropriate.
Who You Are:
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 6 - 7 years of software engineering, quality engineering, or software development experience.
  • 3+ years leading Quality Engineering, Test Engineering, SDET, or Developer Platform engineering teams.
  • Proven experience building engineering platforms that improve software quality and developer productivity.
  • Strong background developing automated testing frameworks for cloud-native applications and distributed systems.
  • Experience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices.
  • Experience building internal developer platforms, engineering tooling, or self-service engineering capabilities.
  • Strong understanding of AWS cloud technologies, APIs, distributed systems, and modern software architecture.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in healthcare, diagnostics, laboratory information systems (LIS/LIMS), molecular diagnostics, or regulated medical software.
  • Experience validating healthcare interoperability standards including HL7, FHIR, X12, and related healthcare transactions.
  • Experience testing AI-enabled products, machine learning systems, or generative AI applications.
  • Experience using AI-assisted development and testing tools to improve engineering productivity.
