Role OverviewSoni's client is seeking a Manager of Software Quality Engineering to lead their Quality Engineering organization and drive the evolution of automated and functional testing capabilities. This is a highly technical, hands-on leadership role combining framework architecture, team leadership, DevOps integration, and strategic quality engineering.
The ideal candidate brings a strong software engineering background within Quality Engineering, proven experience building custom test automation frameworks from the ground up, and a track record of leading technical QE teams.
Key ResponsibilitiesTest Automation & Framework Architecture- Design, build, and scale modular, maintainable E2E automation frameworks from scratch for UI and API testing.
- Lead automation strategy across UI technologies (Playwright, Selenium) and API technologies (REST Assured, Postman).
- Establish automation standards, architecture, coding practices, and design patterns (e.g., Page Object Model [POM], Page Component Object Model [PCOM]).
- Conduct code reviews and provide hands-on technical guidance to QE engineers.
AI & Emerging Technology- Lead the adoption of AI-driven testing capabilities, including AI-generated test cases, self-healing automation, intelligent test maintenance, and defect prediction.
- Evaluate and implement Generative AI and Agentic AI tools to optimize testing efficiency and coverage.
- Leverage enterprise LLM technologies (OpenAI, Claude, etc.) where appropriate.
DevOps & CI/CD- Integrate functional, regression, performance, API, and E2E automation into CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, AWS CodePipeline).
- Drive "Shift Left" testing practices across the entire software development lifecycle (SDLC).
- Establish automated quality gates to increase release speed and confidence.
Leadership & Team Development- Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing Quality Engineering team.
- Manage priorities, workloads, technical initiatives, and delivery timelines.
- Develop upskilling and learning paths to help team members transition into automation-focused QE roles.
- Partner with engineering leadership, product managers, and enterprise architects to remove delivery bottlenecks.
Quality Strategy & Compliance- Develop comprehensive test strategies covering functional, integration, regression, API, performance, and E2E testing.
- Track test execution, defect trends, automation coverage, and key quality metrics to communicate risks proactively.
- Formulate test data strategies to securely manage and mask sensitive data (PHI/PII).
- Ensure testing protocols align with strict regulatory and security frameworks (HIPAA, SOX).
Required Qualifications- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience: 5+ years of progressive Software Quality Engineering experience, including direct experience managing technical QE/QA teams.
- Hands-on Framework Architecture: Proven track record building test automation frameworks from scratch.
- UI/API Testing: Expert-level mastery of Selenium WebDriver, Playwright, TestNG, JUnit, Postman, and REST Assured.
- DevOps & Cloud: Experience integrating automated suites into CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, AWS CodePipeline) within AWS/cloud-native environments.
- Containers & Orchestration: Practical exposure to Docker and Kubernetes.
- Emerging Tech: Working knowledge of Generative AI, LLMs, or Agentic AI applied to software testing.
- Agile Tooling: Proficiency with Jira, Zephyr, TestRail, and standard Agile/DevOps workflows.
Preferred Qualifications- Prior leadership experience within insurance, financial services, or another highly regulated environment.
- Familiarity with third-party administration (TPA), claims adjudication, or policy lifecycle systems.
- Experience implementing AI-powered testing, security testing, and secure test data management.
- Direct experience aligning technical testing strategies with HIPAA, SOX, or related compliance frameworks.
