About the Role We are hiring a
Engineering Manager to lead two product-focused engineering teams within KEV's fundraising portfolio-products that directly support how schools raise and manage critical funds. The first team owns LunchBox, our school lunch ordering solution used daily by schools to support fundraising and meal operations on a scale. The second team will build and scale KEV's Fundraising Platform, enabling campaign management and web stores that power student clubs, sports teams, and extracurricular activities across thousands of schools.
You will manage the Engineering Leads who run day-to-day execution within each team, sitting between the VP of Engineering and the Leads. You'll work with Product to align on portfolio priorities, then hold your Leads and their teams accountable for turning that roadmap into predictable, on-time, quality delivery. You'll also own the people side of the portfolio: developing your Leads into stronger managers and technical leaders, planning capacity, and building the leadership bench the portfolio needs as it grows.
This is a senior engineering leadership role for someone who leads through other leaders, but still owns real technical ground. You will set technical direction for teams working in React, .NET, and API-driven microservices on Azure, making the pragmatic calls on architecture, modernization, and scalability that the portfolio needs. The job is defined by delivery ownership, team health, and long-term organizational thinking just as much as by that technical range.
How You'll Contribute - Engineering Leadership: Manage and develop the Engineering Leads across the portfolio. Run regular 1:1s, set clear expectations, coach consistently, and address performance concerns directly. Keep a close read on team health too, including morale, burnout, engagement, and retention risk, and step in when something's off.
- Organizational Capability: Own capacity planning and the engineering roadmap for your portfolio. Spot capability and succession risks early, and build the leadership depth the group needs to keep growing. That means working closely with Product to keep engineering capacity and delivery planning realistic against the roadmap.
- Delivery Ownership: You're accountable for delivery outcomes across LunchBox and Fundraising Platform. Translate priorities into clear plans with predictable results, and build the operating rhythms that keep both teams honest about progress. When a dependency or blocker threatens a commitment, you're the one surfacing it early and clearing the path.
- Product Partnership: Act as the primary engineering counterpart to Product for the portfolio. Shape priorities, scope, sequencing, and trade-offs together, and make sure engineering has a seat at the table early in discovery, not just at handoff.
- Agile Practices: Lead teams operating in Agile environments across the portfolio, strengthening planning, estimation, and delivery discipline while keeping the focus on outcomes over process. Coach your Engineering Leads on agile principles directly, and make sure velocity and capacity are tracked in ways that are actually useful, not just reported.
- Quality, and Reliability: Make sure quality, reliability, and security are built into the development lifecycle, not bolted on afterward. Set clear testing and engineering standards that both teams actually follow, with a shift-left mindset baked in.
- Technical Leadership: Set technical direction for teams building on React, .NET, and API-driven microservice architectures on Azure. Work with your Tech Leads to manage cross-team technical risk and make the pragmatic calls on architecture, modernization, and scalability the portfolio needs, while letting Tech Leads own day-to-day technical decisions within their own squads.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Product, Design, QA, and Support to keep the broader product area moving. Coordinate work that spans teams, resolve shared dependencies before they stall anyone, and keep execution smooth across the group.
Who You Are - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 5+ years managing and developing Engineering Leads or managers in SaaS environments.
- Proven track record leading through other leaders: managing multiple Agile teams via Engineering Leads and Tech Leads, not just individual engineers, to deliver customer-facing products at scale.
- Deep, hands-on familiarity with modern SaaS architecture, including React frontends, .NET and API-driven microservices, and cloud platforms such as Azure, with enough depth to personally own architecture and modernization calls across a multi-team portfolio.
- Strong grasp of planning, estimation, and execution in Agile delivery environments, including across complex, multi-team initiatives.
- Comfortable balancing delivery speed, quality, operational health, technical investment, and long-term maintainability in real-world product environments.
- Demonstrated ability to hire, coach, and retain high-performing Engineering Leads and senior ICs, with a strong record of developing Tech Leads and emerging engineering leaders.
- Skilled at partnering with Product leadership, translating roadmap priorities into realistic, capacity-aware delivery plans and healthy trade-off conversations.
- Keeps a clear view of team health across the portfolio: proactive about morale, burnout, engagement, and retention risk, and comfortable acting on it directly.
- Business-minded, with a strong understanding of how engineering execution and technical decisions impact customer experience and company outcomes.
- A pragmatic communicator who works effectively across Engineering, Product, Design, QA, and other stakeholders.
- Motivated by ownership, accountability, developing others, and continuously raising the bar. Ready to operate beyond a single-team scope and grow into broader engineering leadership responsibility.
