- Build an accountable, inclusive, and collaborative team culture focused on learning, ownership, and engineering craftsmanship.
- Support workforce planning, recruiting, onboarding, and retention for the assigned engineering team.
- Create clear ownership and delegation models that help team members grow and operate effectively.
Engineering Delivery & Execution- Own delivery for the assigned team, including planning, design, development, testing, deployment, and ongoing support of software solutions.
- Translate product priorities and technical direction into clear plans, milestones, and team commitments.
- Identify and remove delivery blockers, manage dependencies, and communicate risks and trade-offs early.
- Balance feature delivery with reliability, security, technical debt, and continuous improvement.
Technical Leadership & Quality- Guide technical design discussions, code and architecture reviews, and complex troubleshooting within the team's area of responsibility.
- Ensure solutions meet standards for performance, maintainability, security, observability, and production readiness.
- Promote disciplined engineering practices, including automated testing, CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, documentation, and root-cause analysis.
- Partner with senior engineers and architects to align team-level decisions with broader platform and architecture direction.
Cross-Functional Partnership- Collaborate with Product, Design, Architecture, Quality, Security, Infrastructure, and business partners to clarify requirements and deliver meaningful outcomes.
- Provide transparent updates on delivery, technical risks, dependencies, and team capacity.
- Use data and objective trade-off analysis to support prioritization and decision-making.
- Ensure technical considerations are incorporated into planning and roadmap discussions.
Innovation & Modernization- Encourage practical use of modern engineering approaches, including cloud-native services, APIs, microservices, event-driven systems, automation, and infrastructure-as-code.
- Evaluate AI-enabled development tools and emerging technologies for responsible use where they improve quality, productivity, or customer outcomes.
- Promote experimentation, learning, and measurable improvements to developer experience and software delivery.
QualificationsRequired Skills & Experience- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
- 7+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including 2+ years of formal people leadership or engineering team leadership.
- Experience managing the delivery and operation of production-grade software applications.
- Strong understanding of modern software architecture, cloud platforms, CI/CD, automation, observability, security, and software development lifecycle practices.
- Ability to guide technical design, evaluate engineering trade-offs, and support resolution of complex production issues.
- Demonstrated success coaching engineers and building collaborative, high-performing teams.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts, risks, and recommendations to technical and nontechnical audiences.
- Experience partnering with Product and other cross-functional teams in an Agile delivery environment.
- Openness to innovation, including responsible exploration and application of AI-enabled development tools.
Preferred Experience- Experience with Microsoft Azure or another major cloud platform.
- Experience modernizing legacy applications or evolving platforms toward cloud-native, service-oriented, or event-driven architectures.
- Exposure to AI-assisted software development, code generation tools, embedding models, vector search, or ML-enabled product capabilities.
