Manager - Security EngineeringLocation: Pittsburgh, PA (Hybrid)

Reports to: Director, Information Security
PurposeThe Manager - Security Engineering is responsible for the configuration, optimization, administration, and continuous improvement of the organization's security technologies. This role serves as the technical owner for security tools and platforms, ensuring they operate effectively to protect enterprise systems, data, and users from cyber threats.
The Manager - Security Engineering partners closely with Security Operations, Vulnerability Management, Infrastructure, DevOps, and Software Development to implement security controls, enhance detection capabilities, automate security processes, and support incident response activities.
This role does not currently have direct reports but is expected to evolve into a people leadership role as the Security Engineering function grows, with responsibility for building, mentoring, and managing team members over time.
Key ResponsibilitiesSecurity Tool Administration & Optimization
- Configure, maintain, and optimize security technologies, including:
- SIEM platforms
- Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR)
- Vulnerability Management tools
- Email Security platforms
- Identity and Access Management (IAM) solutions
- Data Loss Prevention (DLP) tools
- Firewalls and Network Security solutions
- Cloud Security platforms
- Tune security policies, alerts, and detection rules to improve effectiveness and reduce false positives.
- Develop and maintain integrations between security tools and enterprise systems.
- Monitor platform health, performance, and capacity.
Security Monitoring & Detection Engineering
- Create, test, and maintain security use cases and detection logic.
- Analyze security events and recommend improvements to monitoring capabilities.
- Develop threat detection content based on emerging threats and attack techniques.
- Support Security Operations investigations and incident response efforts.
Security Automation
- Develop and maintain automation workflows to improve operational efficiency.
- Leverage scripting and orchestration tools to automate repetitive security tasks.
- Support implementation of Security Orchestration, Automation, and Response (SOAR) capabilities.
Architecture & Engineering Support
- Participate in security reviews for new systems, applications, and cloud deployments.
- Provide technical guidance on security standards and best practices.
- Support implementation of security controls aligned with organizational and regulatory requirements.
- Evaluate and recommend new security technologies.
Team Leadership & Development
- Provides leadership, direction, and performance management for the Security Engineering team.
- Coaches, mentors, and develops team members to build technical expertise and support career growth.
- Establishes team goals, priorities, and workload management to ensure effective execution of engineering activities
- Identifies future staffing, capability, and resource needs to support the continued growth and maturity of the Security Engineering team
Required Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Information Security, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
- 5-7 years of experience in cybersecurity, systems administration, network engineering, or a related technical field.
- Experience with security monitoring and SIEM technologies (Microsoft Sentinel, Splunk, InsightIDR, etc.)
- Expertise in endpoint security platforms (Microsoft Defender, CrowdStrike, SentinelOne, etc.)
- Knowledge of Microsoft 365 and Azure security technologies and configurations
- Experience with other security technologies including Data Loss Prevention solutions and Email Security platforms.
Preferred Qualifications- CISSP, GIAC (GSEC,GCIA,GCIH), Microsoft Security Certifications, CompTIA Security +, SC-200, SC-300, SC100
Work EnvironmentThis job operates in a home office and professional office environment. When in-office this role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines, and communications via MS Teams.
