Manager, Programs and Services

Job Purpose
The Manager, Programs and Services provides leadership for the planning, implementation, evaluation, and continuous improvement of programs and services within Dixon Hall's Seniors Services Department. The role ensures the delivery of high-quality, client-centred, culturally responsive, and evidence-informed services that support healthy aging, social connection, and independent living for older adults.

The Manager actively supports the mandate of the MIRA | Dixon Hall Centre, a collaborative partnership between Dixon Hall and McMaster University's McMaster Institute for Research on Aging, by fostering innovation, research-informed practice, community engagement, and knowledge mobilization to improve outcomes for older adults and caregivers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the planning, development, implementation, evaluation and continuous improvement of all care-related programs and initiatives within Seniors Services.
  • Oversee the delivery of Meals on Wheels, Transportation Services, Adult Day & Alzheimer Day Programs, Seniors Active Living Centre Programs and Telephone Reassurance Program and other assigned services
  • Provide management oversight, support and operational coverage for assigned programs and services, while assisting with other department programs and services as required.
  • Ensure programs are responsive to community needs, culturally relevant, accessible and compliant with organizational and funder requirements.
  • Monitor program performance, service outcomes, expenditures and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with funders, community partners, healthcare providers, academic institutions and other stakeholders.
  • Actively support and participate in MIRA | Dixon Hall Centre initiatives, including research, innovation, knowledge translation and community engagement activities.
  • Support grant applications, funding reports, program evaluations and the identification of new funding opportunities.
  • Provide leadership, supervision, coaching and performance management to staff, students and volunteers.
  • Collaborate with People and Culture on staff development, performance management, attendance management, labour relations matters and return-to-work processes
  • Contribute to departmental and organizational strategic initiatives, change management efforts and service enhancement.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


Qualifications and Competencies
  • Post-secondary degree/diploma in Social Work, Gerontology, Health Sciences, Community Development, Human Services, Nursing or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of leadership and supervisory experience with demonstrated ability to lead effective teams.
  • Knowledge of aging, dementia, caregiver supports and community-based service delivery.
  • Experience in program development, evaluation, quality improvement and performance management.
  • Demonstrated ability to build effective partnerships and collaborate with diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational and relationship-management skills.
  • Experience with grant writing, reporting and budget monitoring is an asset.
  • Knowledge of research-informed practice and community-based research initiatives is an asset.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion and culturally responsive service delivery
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with AlayaCare is considered an asset.
  • Excellent knowledge of program evaluation, metrics, reporting, risk management and quality improvement strategies.
  • Established experience in partnership development and collaboration and Community Development
