Hiring Salary Range: $110,500.00-143,000.00 / year



General Accountabilities:
  • Accountable to manage, develop and maintain a team of professionals for a centralized project delivery department that supports the capital work program for electrical power system projects of the company.
  • Accountable to administer the technical project management effort by providing guidance and leadership of a team of Project Managers.
  • Accountable for the integration of the project management team with all areas of the organization (environment, Indigenous relations, estimating, risk, cost control, document control and change management).
  • Accountable for creating reports for management and supporting corporate level schedule meetings such as: financial reporting, executive leadership reporting and Board of Directors reporting.
  • Responsible for the development of department work methods and processes that are consistent with departmental project controls methodology and industry best practices as defined by AACE and PMI.
  • Perform other duties as required.


Selection Criteria:
  • Requires a good knowledge of English to communicate effectively with others in both written and oral form. Will also need to be able to effectively present to stakeholders and prepare technical reports.
  • Requires a university degree in engineering, sciences or extensive experience in the electrical utility construction management field.
  • Requires experience with project management of power system projects. A period of over 10 years and up to and including 15 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
  • Experience with supervising, managing or coaching a team of several professional staff.
  • Experience in construction management and planning, examples of which include: understanding working drawings, preparing construction schedules for the full lifecycle of a project, project planning, estimating and controlling cost and schedule
  • Experience related to the development, design, construction, commissioning, operation and maintenance of transmission/distribution assets is a plus.
  • Experience in contract negotiation, management and administration of a wide variety of contracts including time-and-materials, fixed price and EPC contracts.
  • Scheduling experience in transmission line and station projects or other linear project types is a plus.
  • Experience with SAP is an asset.
  • Experience in working with and setting up project control systems to provide earned value analysis.

  • Requires performing a variety of duties under the usual business office conditions. Required to travel, by ground and air, in support of site meetings for the various projects/programs assigned. This will at times include overnight stays due to distance of travel and to ensure safe conditions for travel.


Managerial Accountabilities & Demonstrated Management Skills
  • Manage the unit and achieve the targeted results through diligent and accurate oversight of the health and safety and financial aspects of the department. Maintain a team of professionals who are capable of producing the outputs required:
  • Provide staffing recommendations as requirements and objectives evolve, especially in consideration of a growing capital portfolio.
  • Assess staff capability to do the required work, now and in the future.
  • Conduct professional development reviews of team members to build relationships and trust, and to improve effectiveness.
  • Advocate the acquisition of appropriate tools and skills to optimize the performance of staff.
  • Mentor, counsel and foster the professional development of all team members.
  • Manage the unit and achieve the approved programs and targeted results through the promotion of teamwork between the various disciplines, contracted resources and line of businesses across Hydro One.
  • Generate a customer/client-focused culture, which consistently meets its promised commitments.
  • Optimize all resources and encourage innovative ways to reduce costs and improve efficiencies.
  • Maintain and develop a skilled and safety conscious workforce within the department, promoting succession planning.


Be accountable for the outputs of others:
  • Set the appropriate context for team members (i.e. safety expectations, corporate strategies and policies, accountabilities, tasks, budget and programs, compliance and performance targets, expectations for continuous improvement, etc.).
  • Set an effective framework of policies and procedures for the work of the unit.
  • Know and ensure unit compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements, and all corporate policies and procedures, and generally accepted practices relating to the work of the unit.
  • Establish a two-way working relationship with team members to solicit their views on conditions and potential changes affecting their work emphasizing safety and continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Provide leadership to team members, so that they collaborate competently, and with full commitment, with each other in pursuing the goals set.
  • Translate the corporate goals and objectives into a direction which guides the work of the unit and communicate that direction to all team members.
  • Define specific tasks for team members that are required to achieve desired results and/or to accommodate changes required within the business operations.

  • Provide team members with appropriate knowledge, skills, information, work procedures and equipment to facilitate responsible behavior which will protect their safety and contribute to their health.

The base salary for this role considers a variety of factors, including candidates' knowledge, skills, experience, education, and any applicable collective agreement requirements for union-represented positions.
