Description:

As Manager, Planning and Operations, you will provide leadership and direction in support of the research goals and missions of both the Tanz CRND and the TDRA. Serving as a strategic catalyst, you will ensure the effective stewardship of Tanz CRND and TDRA resources, driving the success of complex, multi-million dollar collaborative projects across multiple locations. You will champion operational efficiency and process optimization by managing investment and research accounts, forecasting expenditures, preparing complex budgets, and conducting deep financial analyses to deliver actionable, data-driven recommendations. Grounded in sharp financial acumen and exceptional people leadership, you will implement best practices across both fiscal and HR management, ensuring research teams have the tools, equipment, and resources necessary to directly empower breakthroughs in neurodegenerative research.

Essential Qualifications

  • University degree in business, accounting, or finance or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • A minimum of five (5) years in a progressively responsible administrative role at the leadership level, preferably within a research/academic environment
  • Demonstrated experience in financial management, particularly in research administration, including developing budget, forecasting, and collaborations that span institutions
  • Proven experience developing, leading, and mentoring high-functioning teams, with a strong preference for candidates who have successfully led staff and interpreted collective agreements within a unionized environment using established HR policies and procedures
  • An advocate for building diverse and inclusive workplaces and leading successful change
  • Familiarity with complex renovation projects (laboratory renovations), capital projects and space management
  • Experience supporting strategic planning initiatives and managing administrative processes
  • Experience supporting the academic appointments and promotions processes for faculty and researchers
  • Strong technical skills, including knowledge of the University of Toronto's Administrative Management System (AMS) and a facility for working with project management tools along with keeping current with new and emerging technologies
  • Proven commitment to equity, diversity and inclusivity
  • Proven leadership and management skills, including outstanding interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to maintain a broad perspective; ability to foster and maintain effective relationships with all levels of faculty, staff, students, senior administration and external constituents
