This role is genuinely rare. It sits at the intersection of HR operations and global payroll in a way that most managers at this level never get real exposure to. ZeroFox is in the middle of building out its People function with intention - we're migrating to a new HRIS platform, moving payroll under HR for the first time, and managing a footprint that spans 10 countries across four different employment frameworks. The person we're hiring isn't stepping into a finished machine. They're helping design it.
You'll report directly to the VP of Human Resources and work closely with the accounting team on payroll - not as a handoff partner, but as a genuine co-owner of the process. If you want a seat at the table where HR, Finance, and operations intersect at a PE-backed cybersecurity company, this is it.
This role owns two pillars simultaneously. Roughly 30% of your time lives in global payroll - working side by side with the accounting team on payroll processing, tax compliance, and employee expense report management - reviewing submissions, coordinating approvals, and ensuring timely payment - in partnership with the Accounting team across the US and international jurisdictions. The other 70% is HR operations: global benefits administration across the US, Chile, India, UK, and EOR countries; compliance program management across federal, state, and multi-country requirements; HRIS ownership as we migrate to Rippling; leave program management; and vendor relationship management across our benefits broker network and HR tech stack.
The Reality- You've owned payroll before - not just watched it happen, but been accountable for accuracy, tax filings, and vendor relationships
- Compliance complexity energizes rather than exhausts you. Multi-state, multi-country HR and payroll compliance is where you do your best work
- You can run a benefits open enrollment and a payroll audit in the same week without dropping either
- You've managed an HRIS implementation or migration and know what good change management looks like from the inside
- You build process where none exists. This role requires creating infrastructure, not just maintaining it
- You're data-first: you trust the report over your memory, and you build dashboards before someone asks for them
Requirements- 5+ years of progressive HR operations experience with direct, accountable exposure to payroll management - not just adjacency to it
- Hands-on global or multi-state payroll processing experience: you've been responsible for the output, not just informed of it
- Experience managing an employee expense report process end to end - reviewing submissions, coordinating approvals, and ensuring timely payment in partnership with Accounting
- Working knowledge of US benefits administration: open enrollment, FMLA, ADA accommodations, 401(k), HSA, and state-mandated leave programs across multiple jurisdictions
- HRIS proficiency - experience managing a platform migration or implementation, not just day-to-day use
- Strong command of US employment law (FLSA, FMLA, EEO, ERISA, NLRA, ADA) and comfort navigating multi-country compliance requirements
- Excel and data skills strong enough to build and audit payroll reconciliations and benefits reports independently
- Experience managing or coaching junior HR operations staff
- Bachelor's degree in HR, Business, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Rippling experience - we're migrating to Rippling and familiarity would accelerate your ramp
- Familiarity with EOR employment models (GoGlobal, Deel, or similar) - we use them across several countries
- PHR, SHRM-CP, or CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification
- Multi-country benefits administration experience outside the US - our footprint spans Chile, India, UK, and several EOR countries
- Experience in a PE-backed or high-growth environment where you've had to build process while the company kept moving
Benefits- Comprehensive health, dental, and vision (Cigna)
- 401(k) with 3% match, 100% immediately vested
- HSA with quarterly company contributions
- Company-paid short/long-term disability, life and AD&D insurance
- Employee Assistance Program (EAP) - confidential counseling, legal, and financial support
- Pet insurance and discount program
