Full Job Description
Overview:

Veeco's San Jose site is the production hub for Laser Spike Annealing (LSA), Next-Gen Spike Annealing (NSA), and Advanced Packaging (AP) lithography systems - highly complex capital equipment that enables advanced chip packaging, AI workloads, and leading-edge semiconductor nodes. These systems demand precision, throughput, and zero-defect assembly.

As Manufacturing Manager for Day Shift, you will own production output for your area - balancing quality, schedule attainment, and cost while sustaining a continuous improvement culture on the floor. You are a hands-on leader who thrives in a high-mix, low-volume environment, capable of resolving bottlenecks in real time, coaching a skilled team, and institutionalizing lean manufacturing practices. This role is critical to delivering Veeco's most strategic products on time for customers shaping the future of computing.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage daily manufacturing operations during the Day Shift, directing assembly and integration of complex electromechanical systems.
  • Translate the master production schedule into resource and manpower plans, ensuring labor, materials, and equipment capacity align to hit customer delivery dates.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop production supervisors and assembly technicians, building team capability and accountability in a high-performance culture.
  • Identify and close process gaps impacting safety, quality, or throughput; implement structured root cause analysis and corrective actions (8D, 5 Whys, RCCA).
  • Champion lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives, including 6S, value-stream mapping, cycle-time reduction, and standard work adoption.
  • Collaborate closely with Planning, Supply Chain, and Engineering to resolve late materials, incorporate design changes, and prevent schedule slips.
  • Track and report KPIs (safety, yield, on-time delivery, productivity) - presenting monthly performance reviews with data-driven improvement plans.
  • Institutionalize quality feedback loops: ensure lessons learned from customer issues flow back into build processes.
  • Promote an uncompromising safety culture, sustaining compliance with all Veeco and industry EH&S standards.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Business, or related technical discipline (or equivalent practical experience).
  • 10 years in manufacturing operations, including at least 5 years in supervisory or managerial roles.
  • Direct experience leading the production of complex electro-mechanical systems; semiconductor capital equipment strongly preferred.
  • Experience with ERP systems (SAP experience preferred).
  • Ability to work 6:30 AM - 3:00 PM on-site and flex as needed during critical production demand periods.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Proven success managing high-mix, low-volume manufacturing for precision equipment.
  • Strong familiarity with vacuum systems and controls; semiconductor tool experience highly desirable.
  • Ability to empower and coach teams, strengthen bench depth, and sustain engagement during operational scaling.
  • Expertise in Lean manufacturing principles and structured problem-solving; formal CI certifications (Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen) a plus.
  • Strong cross-functional communication skills - able to influence and align Planning, Supply Chain, and Engineering on schedule-critical decisions.
  • Data-driven decision-making: ability to interpret KPIs to drive systemic improvement.
