Job DescriptionResponsible for overseeing laboratory operations, The Manager of Laboratory Operations ensuring timely and accurate testing, managing team members, maintaining equipment, and enforcing safety and regulatory compliance. Acts as a leader and technical expert, driving quality and efficiency in support of patient care.
- Laboratory Operations: Responsible for effective financial and technical operations across all site location departments. Administrative resource for the laboratory team.
- Quality Management: Maintains strong emphasis on quality management, process improvement and strategic thinking skills. Implementing and maintaining quality control procedures, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and protocols.
- Department Budget and Goals: Responsible for preparing and administering departmental budgets. Coordinates objectives and goals designed to improve the financial and operational performance of the laboratory in coordination with Atlantic Health system goals. Manages the laboratory budget by tracking expenses and monitoring inventory management to avoid budget variances.
- Regulatory Compliance and Safety: Supports and maintains compliance with Atlantic Health and regulatory standards. Enforces all safety and PPE protocols to ensure a clean, safe workspace.
Actively participates in inspection preparedness and all regulatory onsite inspections. - Communication: Communicates effectively and appropriately with all levels of administration, team members, physicians, patients and others. Establishes regularly scheduled team meetings with department supervisors, leads and staff; establishes other communication pathways and reviews for effectiveness.
- Team Member Management: Effectively leads and develops laboratory team members by fostering a collaborative work environment, setting clear performance expectations, and supporting professional growth to ensure high-quality clinical outcomes.
- Computer Usage: Demonstrates working knowledge of the use of Atlantic Health, HIS, LIS and management software applications as related to all aspects of job-related functions.
- Training and Education: Responsible for maintaining mandatory compliance for Team Member document control, training, competency assessment and continuing education standards.
- Policies/Procedures: Establish, maintain and ensure adherence to all approved laboratory standard operating policies and procedures. Ensure adherence to Atlantic Health policies.
QualificationsMust meet the CLIA personnel requirements for High Complexity testing:
- MD or DO with a current medical license, OR
- Doctoral degree in clinical laboratory science, chemical, physical or biological science, OR
- Master's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory, chemical, physical, or biological science, OR
- Bachelor's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory, chemical, physical or biological, OR
- Associate degree in chemical, physical or biological science or medical laboratory or equivalent education and training
- Foreign education credentials require US equivalency documentation by an AHS approved agency.
Must meet the CLIA requirements for General Supervisor:
- Qualified as a Director for high complexity testing, OR
- Qualified as a Technical Supervisor for high complexity testing, OR
- Doctoral degree in clinical laboratory science or chemical, physical or biological science
with 1 year training and experience in high-complexity testing, OR - Master's degree in clinical laboratory science, medical technology or chemical, physical or
biological science and 1 year training and experience in high-complexity testing, OR - Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science, medical technology or chemical, physical or
biological science and 1 year training and experience in high-complexity testing, OR - Associate degree in medical laboratory technology (or pulmonary function) and 2 years
laboratory (or blood gas analysis) training or experience, or both, in high complexity testing - Doctoral, master's, or bachelor's degree in a chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution
- Master's Degree preferred
- Foreign graduates require equivalency documentation.
- Minimum of six (6) years clinical laboratory experience which must be inclusive of three (3) years of laboratory supervisory experience.
- Decision making skills substantiated by in depth knowledge of laboratory procedures, principles and instrumentation.
- ASCP, AMT or defined equivalent preferred
