Full Job Description
Purpose: The Manager of Joint Venture Accounting is responsible for overseeing the accounting, financial reporting, and compliance activities of the Company's joint ventures. This role ensures adherence to joint venture agreements, accurate financial reporting, timely partner distributions, management fee calculations, loan administration, and audit support. The Manager serves as a key liaison between internal stakeholders and joint venture partners, providing financial guidance and ensuring the integrity of joint venture accounting processes. Essential Functions: - Collaborates with JV partners regarding contractual financial terms, including financial reporting, cash distributions, loans, management fees, and other accounting matters - Maintains and enhances JV accounting policies, processes, workflows, and internal controls to improve efficiency and ensure compliance with established standards - Prepares and reviews monthly financial statements for all joint ventures, ensuring accuracy and timely reporting - Calculates and administers partner distributions and management fees in accordance with joint venture agreements Manages JV receivables and notes, monitors collections, and assesses financial risk related to partner balance and outstanding obligations - Reviews and analyzes annual JV tax packages to ensure completeness and compliance with reporting requirements Reconciles minority interest payable balances, loan balances, and other JV-related balance sheet accounts - Assists with and coordinates joint venture audits with external auditors, including the preparation of audit schedules and supporting documentation - Partners with Legal, Business Development, and Operations Management on joint venture-related matters, including contract interpretation and financial implications Supports the onboarding of new joint ventures, ownership restructurings, and strategic business initiatives - Identifies and implements process improvement opportunities to enhance the effectiveness, accuracy, and efficiency of joint venture accounting activities Reporting Relationship: The Manager of JV Accounting reports to the Director of Joint Venture Accounting Major Interdependencies: Operations, Legal, Business Development, Business Development Finance, Operational Excellence, Shared Services Center Minimum Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Work Environment: - Education and Experience: The combination of education and professional experience must exceed 5 years: - In a leadership role: Requires 2 years of experience supervising a team of professionals engaged in executing accounting programs - In a technical role: Requires 5 years of experience engaged in developing and delivering accounting programs, specifically with experience in Joint Venture accounting - A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a program related to the functional area can count for 3 of the 5-year requirement - In the industry: 3-5 years of Hospitality, F&B and/or Retail experience 3-5 years - CPA or CMA preferred - Experience with partnership accounting, profit-sharing arrangements, or multi-entity financial reporting preferred - Specialized Training: - Training that leads to a clear and thorough understanding of IFRS reporting - Strong knowledge of partnership accounting principles, loan accounting, and contractual financial arrangements - Specialized Skillset/Competencies/Traits: - Experience preparing and analyzing financial statements and complex account reconciliations - Demonstrated experience supporting external and internal audits - Strong financial and analytical acumen with the ability to interpret complex financial data and provide actionable insights - Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including financial modeling, reporting, and data analysis - Experience working within SAP or other enterprise ERP systems - Advanced business acumen and also has the strategic mindset required to understand the long-term implications of accounting decisions and to advance the organization's goals - Strong problem-solving, organizational, and project management skills - Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment - Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with internal and external stakeholders - Business acumen and also has the mindset required to understand the long-term implications of Functional planning and to advance the organization's goals - Demonstrated history of understanding the needs of the business, stakeholders, the employee population and individual circumstances - Demonstrated history of creating and maintaining positive work environments through coaching, developing, and leading teams to achieve common goals - Location: This position is located at the North America Support Center in Bethesda, Maryland
