Job Summary

The Indirect Tax Technology Manager is responsible for supporting and optimizing indirect tax technology platforms and tax determination processes across the organization. This role serves as the primary liaison between Tax, IT, Finance, and business stakeholders to ensure tax systems are properly configured, maintained, and aligned with compliance requirements. The Indirect Tax Technologist will support Vertex O Series, Vertex Indirect Tax Accelerator, SAP, and related tax technologies while identifying opportunities to improve automation, data quality, reporting, and controls. This position plays a critical role in enabling accurate indirect tax compliance through system design, maintenance, testing, and process improvement initiatives.

Location

Hybrid 3 days in office. 100% in office during transition.

A Shared Services Center (SSC) centralizes critical business processes, streamlining operations, reducing costs, and delivering consistent quality. By consolidating areas such as finance, procurement, payroll, and reporting, SSC eliminates duplication, frees time for strategic priorities, and fosters efficiency. SSC's primary functions include:

  • O2C (Order-to-Cash): Manages the customer journey from order to payment, driving smoother revenue processes.
  • R2R (Record-to-Report): Enables robust financial reporting and accounting.
  • P2P (Procure-to-Pay): Ensures timely vendor payments and strong supplier relationships. Manages the Travel and Expense program.
  • Center of Excellence: Drives innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Payroll (Hire-to-Retire): Ensures accurate, compliant employee payments.


Shared Services enables companies to focus on growth and strategic goals while maintaining operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Tax Technology Administration

  • Maintain Vertex O Series, Vertex Indirect Tax Accelerator, and related indirect tax applications.
  • Maintain tax determination rules, taxability matrices, jurisdiction assignments, exemption configurations, and legal entity structures.
  • Monitor and support tax content updates, system upgrades, and application maintenance activities.
  • Perform routine reviews of tax engine performance and accuracy.
  • Ensure tax systems operate effectively across multiple business units and jurisdictions.


ERP & System Integration Support

  • Serve as the primary tax technology resource for SAP and other ERP-related tax configurations.
  • Partner with IT and business teams to support tax-related system implementations, upgrades, and enhancements.
  • Assist with integration design and testing between tax engines, ERP systems, e-commerce platforms, procurement tools, and billing systems.
  • Evaluate system changes for indirect tax impacts and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Support end-to-end testing of tax functionality for business and technology projects.


Tax Data & Reporting

  • Develop and maintain indirect tax reports, dashboards, and data extracts.
  • Analyze transaction-level tax data to identify errors, trends, and compliance risks.
  • Support reconciliation activities between Vertex, ERP systems, and the general ledger.
  • Assist with gathering data for audits, tax filings, and compliance reviews.
  • Ensure tax data integrity through regular monitoring and validation procedures.


Automation & Process Improvement

  • Identify and implement automation opportunities to improve accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to indirect tax processes and controls.
  • Assist in documenting tax technology configurations, workflows, and procedures.
  • Develop recommendations for system enhancements and process standardization.
  • Participate in tax transformation projects and Shared Services initiatives.


Issue Resolution & Support

  • Investigate and resolve tax calculation, reporting, and system configuration issues.
  • Provide technical support for tax-related inquiries from Accounting, AP, AR, Procurement, Operations, and IT.
  • Monitor support tickets and ensure timely resolution of tax system concerns.
  • Escalate complex issues and coordinate solutions with software vendors and internal technical teams.


Compliance & Risk Management

  • Support compliance by ensuring tax determination processes align with applicable tax laws and regulations.
  • Assist in maintaining controls around tax technology and related processes.
  • Support audit requests and provide documentation related to system configurations and tax calculations.
  • Monitor legislative changes and evaluate impacts on tax system logic and configurations.


Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing

  • Partner with Indirect Tax, Accounting, IT, and business stakeholders to support organizational objectives.
  • Provide training and guidance on tax technology processes and functionality.
  • Serve as a subject matter resource for tax system capabilities and best practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Information Systems, Finance, Computer Science, Business, or a related field required.
  • 3+ years of experience in indirect tax, tax technology, ERP systems, or related disciplines.
  • Experience with Vertex O Series required.
  • Experience supporting ERP systems, preferably SAP.
  • Understanding of Sales & Use Tax concepts and tax determination processes.
  • Experience with system testing, configuration management, and data analysis.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; experience with reporting or analytics tools preferred.
  • Knowledge of tax automation, process improvement, and system integration concepts.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across functional and technical team.
