As the
Manager II, Senior Manager - Development Officer,you will report to the Director of Development, be a part of the SFUSD Fund Development Team, which houses the district's non-profit partner, Spark SF Public Schools. You will be a district leader in championing great San Francisco public schools by receiving and mobilizing philanthropic and community funds on behalf of the district to ensure every SFUSD student has access to an excellent public education.
A central part of this role is serving as a trusted bridge between SFUSD's educators and program leaders and the philanthropic community - translating the district's instructional priorities and student outcome goals into compelling, evidence-based funding proposals, and building the confidence of foundation partners in SFUSD's capacity to deliver results.
Essential Duties

We expect our
Manager II, Senior Manager - Development Officer will:
- Identify, build and maintain donor centric relationships with individual, corporate, and foundation investors aligned with SFUSD's vision, mission and strategic priorities
- Support the Director of Development in building a meaningful and strategic development program to engage, cultivate and steward individual, corporate and foundation investors
- Build and maintain positive and collaborative relationships with district program staff and leadership in support of SFUSD's vision, mission and strategic priorities
- Build and maintain relationships with Spark board members and other stakeholders by participating in Spark Board of Directors' meetings and being a staff lead for assigned committees
- Lead the creation and implementation of a multi-year stewardship plan that coordinates cross-sector departments within SFUSD, including multiple touch points with investors through various communications and engagement, such as impact reporting and evaluation of their return on investment strategy
- Lead all aspects of donor stewardship and related database management; assuring the integrity of data input and investor information, upkeep of grant and investor management software sufficient to be able to produce gift reports, donor rosters, acknowledgements, donor pledge commitments and reports
- Lead the development of the annual fundraising campaign, policies, procedures and manage systems essential for an impactful donor relations plan
- Serve as the Fund Development team's certified Salesforce System Administrator, responsible for the upkeep, configuration, and reliable operation of the Salesforce Nonprofit Success Pack (NPSP) CRM, including customizing the platform to serve the needs of the team, troubleshooting issues, and training staff on data management and best practices
- Lead and manage the districtwide private funding submission and approval process (Intent to Apply process), reviewing for alignment with district priority initiatives, competing proposals, etc.
- Participate in and help inform the budget development process for Fund Development and Spark SF Public Schools, and ongoing reporting for the Board of Education and Spark* SF Public Schools board of directors
- Collaborate closely with the Sr. Manager of Communications to develop compelling, heartwarming narratives about SFUSD's work and student impact that resonate with philanthropic audiences - while ensuring all storytelling maintains rigor, accuracy, and faithful representation of the district's programs, data, and outcomes
- Partner closely with SFUSD educators, program directors, and school leaders to understand instructional priorities, student outcome goals, and equity initiatives - and translate these into well-framed, evidence-based funding proposals that resonate with foundation partners
- Demonstrate fluency in education policy - including K-12 instructional frameworks, district accountability systems, and the broader policy landscape - in order to represent SFUSD's work credibly and compellingly to philanthropic audiences
- Leverage SFUSD's research and data infrastructure, including working directly with the district's Research, Planning & Assessment team, to identify, interpret, and apply student outcome data and program evaluation findings in support of grant proposals, funder reports, and donor engagement
- Work with education data - including achievement, attendance, equity, and program data - to build narratives of impact that are rigorous, honest, and persuasive; ensure all proposals and reports reflect accurate, current, and contextualized data
- Support educators and program teams in articulating the theory of change behind their initiatives and identifying the evidence base that justifies philanthropic investment
- Stay current on trends in education philanthropy, education policy, and research on effective practice to inform funding strategy and position SFUSD as a credible and forward-thinking partner to foundations
- Support setting and meeting Spark's annual fundraising goals and targets
- Write and prepare funding requests and grant proposals to prospective donors and foundations, as well as track reporting requirements by corporations and foundations
- Manage grants management process and grant program monitoring for portfolio of grants, including coordinating regular check-ins with district program and project staff to review progress on grant activities, gathering program updates and evidence of success, monitoring and reviewing expenditures to mitigate underspending/carryover, and developing other processes necessary to ensure the successful management and implementation of grants
- Manage the production/editing of annual and various stewardship reports, including writing and preparing mid-year and annual reports, working with Grant Project Managers and Budget/Finance Department staff to ensure quality and completion of reports that accurately and timely capture all financial reporting, e.g., revenue forecasts, budgets
- Supervise and manage the Development and Communications Associate, ensuring their successful completion of essential duties related to post-award grants management, Salesforce administration, communications, stewardship, annual individual solicitation campaign, event planning and coordination, prospect research and identification, and data analysis.
- Contribute to the overall success of SFUSD by assuming primary responsibility for special projects as assigned and performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned in a timely, thorough, and professional manner
- Participate in weekly meetings and activities led by the managers of the Development team and support as needed
The strongest candidates will have:
• Knowledge of San Francisco's public schools/urban public schools and a passionate belief in SFUSD's commitment to instructional leadership as a lever toward delivering on the SFUSD Graduate Profile
• Background in education policy, K-12 systems, or urban education - with the ability to engage fluently with district educators, program leaders, and school staff as a credible and trusted partner
• Strong analytics and systems thinking necessary to interpret data to inform goals and strategy, as well as build infrastructure where none exists
• Ability to work effectively across multiple functions and roles within a complex organization
• A proven record of effectively planning, organizing and using resources to take action and achieve goals
• The ability to learn quickly and adapt as needed in a fast-paced environment
• Outstanding organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail

• Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and GSuite (Google Docs, Slides, Sheets, Forms)
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree (B.A. / B.S) from an accredited college or university with major coursework in public or business administration, accounting, finance, economics, social sciences, education or related fields, or other subject areas closely related to a specific departmental program or function.
• Three (3) years full-time equivalent experience performing professional-level responsibilities in fundraising, development, community relations or related field.
