Job Function:The Manager, Government Relations serves as a trusted advisor and relationship manager, working collaboratively across the organization to monitor emerging policy developments, identify opportunities and risks, and engage government stakeholders on issues that impact Hydro One, its customers, and the broader energy sector.
This role contributes to the development and execution of government relations strategies that strengthen Hydro One's reputation, support business objectives, and help advance public policy outcomes aligned with the company's long-term vision.
General Accountabilities:- Lead and manage key Government Relations (GR) advocacy files that support Hydro One's business priorities, regulatory and policy objectives, and corporate reputation.
- Support the development and execution of government outreach strategies that advance Hydro One's business objectives and strengthen stakeholder relationships.
- Prepare and coordinate briefing materials, issue notes, correspondence, presentations, speaking points, and meeting materials for executives and senior leadership teams.
- Develop and maintain strategic relationships with provincial and federal government officials, political staff, industry associations, and other key external stakeholders.
- Represent Hydro One at government meetings, stakeholder events, conferences, industry forums, and consultations, as required.
- Monitor, analyze, and assess political, legislative, regulatory, and policy developments impacting Hydro One and provide strategic advice to senior leadership.
- Identify emerging political and stakeholder issues, assess risks and opportunities, and provide recommendations to mitigate challenges and advance strategic objectives.
- Track and manage GR priorities, timelines, engagement opportunities, legislative calendars, and advocacy activities.
- Lead cross-functional coordination on government relations initiatives, ensuring timely completion of deliverables and alignment across lines of business.
- Collaborate with Corporate Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Indigenous Relations, Community Relations, Legal, and business partners to ensure coordinated stakeholder engagement and advocacy efforts.
- Support executive engagement with elected officials and senior government representatives through strategic planning, briefing development, and relationship management.
- Ensure government relations activities are conducted in accordance with applicable legislation, regulatory requirements, lobbying rules, and Hydro One's corporate policies.
Selection Criteria:- Bachelor's degree in political science, Public Administration, Public Policy, Law, Communications, Business, or related discipline.
- Ten (10) years of experience in government relations, public affairs, political environments, stakeholder relations, public policy, regulatory affairs, or a related field, 3 plus years in Management.
- Experience working with government stakeholders at municipal, provincial, and/or federal levels.
- Demonstrated experience leading complex initiatives and preparing materials for executive-level audiences.
- Strong understanding of political processes, legislative frameworks, government decision-making structures, and stakeholder dynamics.
- Ability to provide politically sound advice and recommendations to leadership.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare concise, strategic, and executive-level materials.
- Demonstrated experience drafting briefing notes, correspondence, presentations, and stakeholder communications.
- Ability to build trusted relationships with elected officials, government staff, industry associations, and external stakeholders.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, competing deadlines, and complex stakeholder engagement activities.
- Ability to assess emerging issues, identify risks and opportunities, and develop proactive solutions.
