Purpose

To support the appropriateness and integrity of financial accounting & reporting for specific areas in International Banking, through implementation of accounting policies; provide technical advice to customers for day to day queries and complex transactions; work with unit finance staff regarding major GAAP changes impacting the unit and Toronto teams; provide advice to units implementing PeopleSoft (Enterprise GL). The incumbent must have good knowledge of the IFRS standards impacting on the banking industry and be able to research a broad range of GAAP.

Is This Role Right for You? In this role, you will:
  • Implement IFRS accounting policies, which may include assessing the impact of changes and developing practical well-controlled solutions given the local system, regulations and accounting standards, and implementation of BNS policies in newly acquired subsidiaries.
  • Provide accounting support through research, analysis and documentation of accounting issues for both (1) ad-hoc queries from units and (2) specialized transactions (which could include due diligences, business combinations etc).
  • Assist with local unit implementation of PeopleSoft (EGL) and/or provide advice to ensure consistency across the Bank for different EGL projects.
  • Support the Director as required.
  • Support other projects as required.


Do You Have the Skills?
  • Accountant with 7+ years of experience in the financial services industry, exposure to complex accounting issues and detailed IFRS knowledge.
  • Accounting designation is an asset.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish is an asset.
  • Experience in a financial reporting/accounting policy role, including implementation of complex new accounting requirements in an international banking environment.
  • IFRS knowledge.
  • Must possess a solid financial acumen and strong organizational analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong research skills - must be able to search and understand a vast body of complex material in an efficient and productive manner to produce accurate results and present alternatives.
  • Writing skills - ability to write clear and concise memos and letters tailored to specific audiences with varying needs, depending on the transaction or project in question.
  • Networking - must demonstrate the ability to develop and maintain strong working relationships across many units/departments of within the International Bank and other areas of the Bank such as EO Finance and Wealth Line of Businesses.
