YOUR OPPORTUNITY

Under the general direction of the Director, the Manager, Finance and Administration is responsible for the management of complex financial and administration functions required to meet the goals and objectives of the Business Development Department. In this role, the Manager, Finance and Administration assists and advises the Director on financial strategies for the department, develops, manages and monitors operating, ancillary, and self-funded budgets and provides operational management and human resources management within the department. The Manager, Finance is an active participant in the department's strategic planning process.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

Key responsibilities include: preparing budgets for units in the department; forecasting revenues and expenditures; conducting financial analyses and making recommendations to address budget implications; developing and implementing business process improvements; reviewing financial controls to ensure financial integrity; budget modeling; and assuming overall responsibility for human resources related to the department's administrative staff.

The Manager, Finance and Administration manages the department's financial administration staff, including hiring, supervision and performance management. The Manager, Finance and Administration provides oversight to the department's financial, administrative and central service functions. The Manager, Finance and Administration oversees the Department's budgets (operating, ancillary and self-funded), financial processes and financial forecasting.

The Manager, Finance and Administration works collaboratively with the department's management team. The Manager, Finance and Administration leads operational projects, financial performance reviews and the purchasing and administration of the department's computer equipment and other assets.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:
  • University degree and a professional accounting certification and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


EXPERIENCE:
  • Must have a minimum of five years of relevant and progressive experience in financial management and administration, preferably in a post-secondary environment.
  • Must have demonstrated experience managing complex budgets.
  • Must have experience administering accounting policies and procurement policies; providing financial advice to senior management, and participating in strategic planning.
  • Must have experience managing staff in a unionized environment.


ASSET:
  • Working knowledge of University of Toronto policies and procedures and their application.


SKILLS:
  • Must be proficient in MS Office software (Excel and Word) and advanced knowledge of finance and accounting.
  • Sound working knowledge of FIS and HRIS (SAP) or equivalent systems is essential.
  • Must have excellent: organizational and time management skills, oral and written communication skills, analytical, problem-solving, and financial and administrative skills.
  • Must also have excellent oral and written communication skills.


OTHER:
  • Must be able to manage competing deadlines and a variety of complex projects simultaneously.
  • Must be willing to respond to/and manage shifting priorities.
  • Must be service oriented and responsive to the needs of the department and their clients.
  • Must have the ability to adapt to new technology and to work effectively in an interdisciplinary environment and keep up-to-date on the rapid changes in the University environment.
