Position SummaryThe Environmental Services Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of Environmental Services within assigned Montefiore Einstein facilities. This role ensures the delivery of a clean, safe, sanitary, and patient-centered environment that supports quality patient care, regulatory compliance, infection prevention standards, and operational excellence. The manager provides leadership to EVS staff, monitors departmental performance, and partners with clinical and operational teams to maintain the highest standards of environmental cleanliness.
Essential Responsibilities- Direct and manage the day-to-day operations of Environmental Services for assigned areas.
- Supervise, coach, and develop EVS supervisors, coordinators, and frontline staff.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable infection prevention, safety, OSHA, Joint Commission, and regulatory standards.
- Monitor cleanliness and sanitation through routine inspections, audits, and quality assurance rounds.
- Develop staffing plans, schedules, and assignments to ensure adequate coverage across all shifts.
- Manage departmental productivity, labor utilization, and operational performance metrics.
- Investigate and resolve service concerns, employee relations issues, and environmental complaints in a timely manner.
- Partner with Nursing, Facilities, Infection Prevention, and other departments to support patient care initiatives and operational goals.
- Oversee employee recruitment, onboarding, training, performance evaluations, and corrective action processes.
- Ensure proper use of cleaning chemicals, equipment, and supplies while maintaining inventory controls.
- Participate in emergency preparedness activities and serve as a departmental leader during emergencies and disaster response situations.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, customer service, and continuous improvement.
QualificationsEducation- Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Environmental Services Management, or a related field preferred.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Experience- Minimum of 5 years of Environmental Services, Housekeeping, Hospitality, or Healthcare Operations experience.
- Minimum of 2 years of leadership or management experience in a healthcare, hospital, or large institutional environment preferred.
- Experience managing large teams in a unionized environment is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Strong understanding of healthcare environmental services standards, infection prevention practices, and regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrated leadership, coaching, and employee development skills.
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and workforce management systems.
- Ability to analyze operational data and implement process improvements.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and off-shift support as needed.
Physical Requirements- Ability to walk extensively throughout hospital facilities.
- Ability to occasionally lift, push, pull, or move equipment and supplies in accordance with departmental requirements.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
