Description Job Overview and Responsibilities This role can be described as a "player-coach", where it encompasses the technical duties of a Principal Engineer, but also has people-leadership responsibilities. The technical duties may include the ownership of specific aircraft, powerplant, cabins/interiors, systems, maintenance programs or service engineering and will have direct operational support of the aircraft, engine, or components. The technical aspect of this role also includes the review of documentation generated by engineering staff members. It's also expected that this role interfaces with such entities as the OEMs, FAA and other industry committees.
In addition, they also lead a team of 3-7 engineers in their area of expertise and is responsible for resource management, assignment of work, employee development and coaching along with performance reviews and management administrative duties such as timecard and expense report approvals (list not exhaustive).
- Manage normal engineering duties as a subject matter expert, in line with the responsibilities of a principal engineer
- Complete technical reviews of engineering documents generated by other team members
- As a member of the leadership team, own and present project and issue status at departmental meetings
- Engage with OEMs, FAA and other external entities as necessary, related to technical issues and industry trends
- Provide leadership and development to team members, in support of their career growth and engagement
Qualifications What's needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications): - B.S Degree or equivalent experience in engineering or related technical field
- 2-4 years of experience as a principal engineer (or similar role elsewhere in the industry)
- Engineering skill sets which can be applied to a range of avionics systems
- Flexibility to work operational issues in addition to project specific work
- Ability to analyze complex technical issues, detailed level of project management for regulatory compliance modifications
- Excellent verbal and technical writing skills needed
- Strong skills in MS office applications (Excel, word, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Travel up to 20% may be required, including international travel
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
- Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
- Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position
