This role will oversee a diverse portfolio of residential rental, commercial and retail income properties and assets.
What will you do?Dream is looking to hire a creative and energetic Accounting Manager, Income Properties & Investments, to take to oversee the financial management of a portfolio of Income Property assets.
Below are some of the primary responsibilities you will be taking on in this role. There will be more, but we can discuss those in person.
- Oversee the accounting and financial operations cycle for each project asset, including review of high-risk transactions and journal entries, third party manager monthly reporting packages, trial balances, reconciliations, working papers, and managing capital calls and distributions;
- Manage the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly and annual variance analyses of actuals versus budget, and communicating results verbally and in writing to Senior Management and partners;
- Responsible for assessing the overall reasonableness and accuracy of accounting records to ensure reliable financial information;
- Manage IT and financial reporting systems, oversee the general ledger and reports, design processes and reports to facilitate efficient operations and reporting, and oversee their implementation;
- Lead, manage, provide training and mentorship to the accounting team members;
- Review and set up appropriate accounting policies and oversee their continuous application;
- Build relationships with 3rd party property managers and ensure monthly reporting is in line with management agreements;
- Assist in the preparation of supporting schedules and continuities for quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements and note disclosures;
- Coordinate quarterly reviews and year-end audits with external auditors when applicable for projects, ensure compliance with the financial reporting requirements of partners as well as with regulatory tax reporting requirements;
- Assist with the budgeting and quarterly forecasting process for all the assets; and
- Participate in operational meetings with internal and external stakeholders and provide support to the asset management team as needed.
What type of experience and skills do you have?These are only some of the things we'd like you to bring to the table. We can cover the rest when we meet.
- CPA designation preferred, with a minimum of 3 years post-qualification experience, of which at least 2 years are at a supervisory level. Equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience will be considered.
- Strong understanding of month-end close, reconciliations, financial statement preparation and consolidations an asset;
- Process-minded: able to document workflows and drive adoption of consistent practices;
- Understanding of various joint business arrangements (JV, partnerships etc.) and the operations of residential, commercial and retail operating assets;
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly in Microsoft Excel; and
- Experience with JD Edwards is a definite asset.
This is a regular, full-time position with a base salary range of $100,000-$120,000. Compensation is determined based on several factors, including relevant experience, total years of experience, industry experience, education, and professional designations.
