The Data Engineering team at CarGurus is looking for a
Manager of Data Platform & Operations Engineering to enable our data platform efforts across the company. You will be responsible for leading the reliability, scalability, and day-to-day operations of our data platform, ensuring trusted and timely data for stakeholders in Product Management, Marketing, Finance, and Engineering. You will own the platform roadmap across ingestion, orchestration, storage, and observability; set and uphold SLAs, cost, security, and quality controls; and establish operational best practices and runbooks. You will partner closely with our internal customers to prioritize capabilities, resolve incidents, and continuously improve developer experience, while contributing to our enterprise data strategy and governance as we scale our core business.
What you'll do- Grow and lead a team of data engineers who will support a diverse set of stakeholders across our business and engineering orgs
- Provide technical leadership to your team to build maintainable data architectures
- Design and oversee scalable, cloud-native data architecture supporting batch and real-time pipelines
- Develop a vision for CarGurus' data platform, identifying gaps in our people and technology strategies and setting high standards for data quality
- Ensure platform scalability, performance, security and cost optimization
- Collaborate with Product Management to prioritize initiatives, manage the execution of projects, and implement agile software development practices as needed
- Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement
What you'll bring- BA or BS Degree in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of experience in product/business analytics, data engineering, analytics engineering, or related field
- 2+ years of hands-on people management experience
- Experience writing code using best practices in a language such as Python, Java, Go, etc.
- Experience working with a cloud data warehouse (e.g., Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, Google BigQuery) and a modern business intelligence platform (e.g., Tableau, Looker, Domo)
- Expert level SQL proficiency and deep familiarity with dimensional modeling best practices
- Experience distilling requirements and enabling both technical and non-technical stakeholders to reach their end goals
- You've already experimented with AI in work or personal projects, and you're excited to dive in and learn fast. You're hungry to responsibly explore new AI tools and workflows, finding ways to make your work smarter and more efficient.
The displayed range represents the expected annual base salary / On-Target Earnings (OTE) for this position. On-Target Earnings (OTE) is inclusive of base salary and on-target commission earnings, which applies exclusively to sales roles.
Individual pay within this range is determined by work location and other factors such as job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
This annual base salary forms part of a comprehensive Total Rewards Package. In addition to benefits, this role may qualify for discretionary bonuses/incentives and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).

$160,000-$201,000 USD
