JOB SUMMARY

The Manager, Construction provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for electrical utility line and excavation crews responsible for the construction, maintenance, and restoration of overhead and underground electric distribution systems. This role drives safe, high-performance field operations by directing workforce execution, optimizing resources, coordinating cross-functional initiatives, and leading emergency response efforts to ensure system reliability and operational excellence.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead and direct line and excavation crews that perform electric distribution construction, maintenance, and repair work, including overhead and underground installations, infrastructure upgrades, and system improvement projects
  • Manage daily and weekly operations by setting priorities, assigning personnel and equipment, and coordinating materials and resources to meet productivity, quality, and schedule goals
  • Promote a strong safety culture by enforcing OSHA regulations, NESC standards, and company policies, identifying risks, reinforcing safe work practices, and maintaining accountability across field operations
  • Oversee the review and approval of job plans, construction drawings, and work packages to ensure accuracy, constructability, operational readiness, and compliance with project specifications
  • Conduct field inspections to evaluate workmanship, safety compliance, operational efficiency, and adherence to company standards, and implement corrective actions as needed
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, customer service, contractors, and other stakeholders to align schedules, resolve operational issues, and support successful project execution
  • Lead storm restoration and outage response by mobilizing personnel and resources, setting restoration priorities, monitoring field progress, and directing emergency operations to restore service safely and efficiently
  • Monitor and analyze performance metrics, including labor productivity, material use, crew efficiency, and job progress, to support cost control, operational performance, and continuous improvement
  • Mentor, coach, and develop superintendents, crew leaders, and field personnel by providing leadership, performance feedback, training, and accountability to strengthen workforce capability and team effectiveness
  • Manage department budget to within 3%


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or GED required; technical training in electric utility construction, excavation, or a preferred related field
  • 7 to 10 years of progressively responsible experience in electric utility construction, including overhead and underground distribution work
  • At least 3 years of supervisory, foreman, or crew leadership experience directing field personnel and daily work
  • A technical degree or additional experience in utility construction management is preferred


CERTIFICATION(S) AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
  • Possess and maintain a valid driver's license in your state of residence and operate motor vehicles safely and responsibly
  • OSHA training and First Aid/CPR certification are preferred


PHYSICAL DEMANDS/OTHER

  • Work is performed in both office and field environments
  • Field work may involve exposure to weather conditions, uneven terrain, loud noise, energized equipment, traffic, excavation hazards, and construction-related vibration
  • Must be available to respond to emergency events during adverse weather conditions
