Lead the Laboratory's Most Complex Construction Initiatives

Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking a senior-level Construction Manager (CM-4) to provide strategic leadership and executive-level oversight of large, complex, high-risk capital construction projects supporting national security infrastructure.

This role serves as a senior authority in construction execution, integrating safety, technical rigor, regulatory compliance, and enterprise-level coordination.

#SHIFTWORK

As a Manager Construction 4, you will provide overall leadership for complex, multi-disciplinary construction programs or portfolios.

Strategic Project Leadership
  • Direct large-scale, high-risk, nuclear or mission-critical construction projects from planning through turnover.
  • Establish execution strategy, field governance structure, and performance expectations.
  • Provide senior-level oversight of scope, schedule, budget, risk management, and change control.
  • Serve as the senior field authority with stop-work responsibility.
Organizational & Enterprise Integration
  • Lead coordination across Project Management, Engineering, Procurement, Safety, Quality, and Project Controls at the program level.
  • Interface with senior Laboratory leadership, federal sponsors, and external regulators.
  • Participate in executive-level reviews of budgets, baseline changes, and project performance.
Technical & Regulatory Authority
  • Ensure compliance with DOE Orders, nuclear quality standards (e.g., NQA-1), and federal acquisition requirements.
  • Oversee implementation of field procedures, training programs, and construction governance.
  • Resolve complex technical and organizational conflicts impacting project execution.
Leadership & Talent Development

Education & Experience
Position typically requires a Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering or Scientific discipline from an accredited institution and 8 years related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.
Must meet DOE O 426.2 requirements, including nuclear experience criteria.

DOE Order 426.2A: Requires a bachelor of science degree in engineering or related science or technology, and 4 years of nuclear experience. Job-related education or experience may be substituted on a case-by-case basis. The degree may be used to substitute up to 50 percent of the experience requirement per section I 4.e of the Contractor Requirements Document (CRD).

Desired Qualifications
  • Significant DOE contractor experience delivering nuclear or Hazard Category 2/3 facility construction.
  • Experience with NQA-1 quality assurance programs.
  • Prior leadership within LANL construction operations or similar national laboratory environment

Work Location: The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM USA. All work locations are at the discretion of management.

Work Environment & Essential Functions: On-site construction environment; indoor/outdoor.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.

HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.

426.2A: This position is subject to DOE Order 426.2A, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities, which establishes entry-level requirements to ensure candidates selected for specific positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Term position: Regular-status Laboratory employees applying for term-status positions may retain regular status with approval of the cognizant Principle Associate Director.

Incentive Compensation Program: Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The annual distribution is prorated based on the number of months in the eligible position.
