OVERVIEWThe Manager, Community Service is a working manager maintaining a caseload at 49% of programming and is responsible for providing daily supervision of the Adult Program service providers within LightHouse's service area.
Community Services DepartmentThe Community Services Department at the LightHouse is a dynamic and compassionate team that provides essential support, education, and advocacy. Through its comprehensive range of programs, the department empowers individuals who are blind, low vision, or DeafBlind to lead independent, fulfilling lives and fosters a more inclusive and understanding community. The department organizes a variety of recreational and social activities that provide opportunities for individuals to connect with others, build friendships, and participate in community life. Activities may include sports, arts and crafts, cultural outings, and support groups, all designed to foster a sense of belonging and community.
QUALIFICATIONS:A minimum of 3 years experience working in adult programming, rehabilitation teaching, or informal education. Experiencing managing a team is preferred.
Bicultural and bilingual welcomed, particularly in languages like American Sign Language, Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Russian, Tagalog, or Vietnamese.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong Microsoft office skills and experience in database entry; strong interpersonal skills to relate to staff, blind/visually impaired students, and persons in the community with varied backgrounds and viewpoints. Ability to formulate individual, sequential training plan. Ability to move about within a variety of environmental conditions. Knowledge of braille desired.
Demonstrated attention to detail and in possession of problem-solving skills; flexibility and ability to multi-task; ability to work under pressure in a deadline-driven environment; and grant and project oversight abilities.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:Provider Accountabilities- Maintains an adult program case load at 49% of work time
- In response to community needs, develop and implement a full schedule of programs at LightHouse campuses and in the community
- Plan and coordinate adult programs in partnership with Rehab and Connections teams, from conception to execution, ensuring each event is executed on time, within budget, and meets attendance targets
- Reach and serve diverse communities by building strong, productive relationships with community organizations, partners, or sponsors
- Ensure that volunteer participation and retention rates remain high, with a goal of retaining at least 80% of volunteers over the course of a year.
- Coordinate logistics and communications to ensure all events are promoted at least 4 weeks in advance, with all necessary resources (venue, materials, staff) secured at least 2 weeks before each event.
- Manage the program attendance list for all programs and follow timely reporting and attendance guidelines and processes
- Ensure compliance with grant guidelines and deliverables and partner with the Institutional Giving Team to secure additional funding sources
- Collaborate with all Rehabilitation and Clinical Services departments, as well as other LightHouse departments as necessary.
- Participation in All Staff, All Services, Consumer Review, and Department Meetings
- Follows all organization and department policies, including, but not limited to Elder Abuse Prevention Training and HIPAA policies and procedures.
Manager Responsibilities- Day-to-day supervision of Community Services and Volunteer Services teams
- Facilitates regular Community Services Team meetings to review program goals, progress, and challenges
- Collaborate with Rehab and Clinical Services leadership to build and follow strategic direction for both Community Services and Volunteer Services
- Conduct quarterly and annual staff goals and reviews.
- Ensure that team grant deliverables are being achieved and appropriately managed in partnership with VP, Rehab and Clinical Services
- Provide budget oversight and planning.
- Ensure all Community Services and Volunteer Services staff meet administrative deadlines.
- Work together with other team members on developing service goals, procedural reviews, and agency policies.
EXPECTATIONS FOR SUCCESS IN THIS ROLE:- Ensure entry of all student service data into Salesforce and other relevant systems are entered by Wednesday for the prior week.
- Submit monthly reporting, billing, and reimbursements accurately and timely by the 5th business day of preceding month.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:- Ability to sit at a desk and perform computer-intensive work for long periods; operate standard office equipment and lift up to 20lbs.
- Ability to work at offsite location(s) independently as needed.
- Ability to travel throughout the Greater Bay Area when required.
