POSITION SUMMARYManages day-to-day activities associated with ASH HIP initiative programs and is a key member of the department supporting the Society's goals for the advancement of those in training, research, and career development by supporting their success and advancement in academic and research appointments. They serve as subject matter experts for various pathway awards and programming. Working with and under the guidance of the Deputy Director, the Manager leads all phases of awards activities under the HIP initiative, a portfolio of $2 million in programming. They support related work for volunteer leadership groups guiding this work.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Awards Programs - Responsible for the day-to-day management of the HIP initiative under the guidance of the Deputy Director.
- Responsible for the day-to-day management of HIP programs throughout program life cycle, including marketing and outreach, application and review, notification and tracking, reporting and evaluation.
- Manages the online awards application system and study section review process; serve as liaison for applicants, institutions, reviewers, study section members, and junior reviewers.
- Represents ASH with applicants, reviewers, and study section members.
- Supports the HIP mentor matching program.
- Cultivates and nurtures relationships with HIP award recipients and program alumni.
- Supports continued alumni engagement in hematology.
- Collaborates with evaluation staff to monitor recipient career advancement.
- Collaborates with department staff on cross-departmental initiatives.
- Supports operations team work to manage award disbursements and compliance (e.g., payments, reports, transfers, no-cost extensions.
Population Health Initiatives - Serves as support to the HIP Program Subcommittee and study section under the guidance of the Deputy Director.
- Manages HIP Day programming (e.g., Luncheon and Presentations and Reception Event) and supports other annual meeting events.
- Leads content submissions for the ASH HIP webpage.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE SKILL REQUIRED - Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years of related experience; experience in non-profit associations or medical societies a plus.
- Knowledge of professional associations, especially medical societies preferred.
- Familiarity with issues related to groups underrepresented in medicine and minority participation in biomedical research desired.
- Demonstrated alumni relations or similar experience desired.
- Program management experience required; award/scholarship/fellowship program experience preferred.
- Detail and customer service oriented with excellent organizational skills.
- Able to do meticulous work carefully and accurately.
- Strong interpersonal and oral/written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, database, and Internet.
- Must possess and exercise high ethical standards and a professional demeanor.
- Excellent analytical, technical, and project management skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Requires manual labor for administrative support (e.g., mobility for mail dissemination and file maintenance, standing for materials compilation).
Requires ability to speak audibly and listen actively.
May require overtime for project support.
Will require minimal air travel.
