Job Description

General Purpose of Job:

The Department Manager is responsible for unit operations. Accountable for associate engagement, physician alignment, and patient satisfaction. Ensures that safe, quality care is delivered according to current evidence-based standards of practice. Promotes and supports shared decision making. Manages unit resources including scheduling of staff and provision of necessary equipment and supplies. Responsible for nursing sensitive indicators, core measures, and other identified outcome measures on the unit.

Job Requirements

General Requirements
• Current State of Michigan RN Licensure. • Basic Life Support (BLS) • Professional certification appropriate to practice, preferred.

Work Experience
• Minimum of 2 years of nursing lead, charge or leadership experience. • Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience.

Education
• Associates degree in nursing. Bachelors in nursing within 3 years of date of hire into the classification. • Master's degree in nursing, preferred.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills
• Clinical knowledge and critical thinking skills necessary to direct multiple nursing units, interpersonal skills for effective communication, computer literate, accountable for professional development and maintenance of clinical competencies, excellent attendance. • Ability to handle multiple tasks concurrently. • Ability to work in stressful situations and manage conflict when necessary. • Ability to prioritize and organize work effectively. • Must be able to work in a collaborative manner with others. • Must be able to effectively lead change and facilitate process improvement.
