Job Description:The Manager of Business Relationship Management is a manager level position that supports in bridging the gap between business strategy and technology. The BRM builds strong relationships with business leaders & teams, providing support in understanding business strategy, organizational friction and supporting the business using consulting skills to connect business outcomes with technology opportunities. The BRM supports the Business on transformational programs and takes the lead in facilitating business future state models, scope identification, business case development, portfolio funding for medium to large efforts. The BRM will also ensure that projects start "with the business future state and scope defined at the beginning." The BRM will support key initiatives and the business through organizational change management activities ensuring the solution gets adopted and embedded into the business operations. This is an emerging functional leadership role that will work directly with the Business Analysts with dotted line leadership across projects in aligned business units.
THE ROLE YOU'LL PLAY: - Strategic Alignment & Business Relationship Management
- Uses a basic understanding of organization and industry to connect efforts to overall organizational purpose and positioning
- Understanding of business teams & customer friction / pain points
- Supports or leads (for medium-large) documentation of business strategy, business future state models, business process flows, customer journey maps, user experience maps, and other similar business artifacts
- Partners closely with business success director/key technology leaders and business leaders to align technology products into business strategies, outcomes and goals
- Leads consistent "business to technology" touchpoints that may outline new opportunities, existing health of business projects, application support metrics, etc.
- Influences the adoption of business relationship management processes and behaviors
- Project Opportunity Discovery
- Communicate internally and externally in a manner that leverages understanding how language, metaphors, bias, and frames-of-reference shape perceptions
- Leads documenting opportunity scope and other key business future state needs through various approaches such as journey mapping, future state visioning, and mind mapping type.
- Partner with technology teams to infuse technology scope and other considerations leading to collaborating problem-solving and decision making
- Partner with technology teams, purchasing teams & legal to facilitate product evaluation, RFI/RFP process
- Support the business in developing business cases, portfolio one pagers in preparation of portfolio intake processes
- Project Support
- Crafts business future state and able to translate that appropriately into documented business requirements when needed.
- Collaborate with the business success director/business analyst through business requirements process as needed such as answering scope questions, ensure requirements are aligned to scope/future state process and ensure business approvals are gathered
- Support the business analyst as they transition business requirements to the technical team and develop requirements traceability
- Plan and support the business through business testing / user acceptance testing as needed
- Prepare the business for go-live ensuring that a business knowledge transition is in place, business readiness has been achieved, and sustainability items are in place
- Organizational Change Management
- Support or lead the business through organizational change ensuring the business is ready to adopt the future state / solution
- Lead stakeholder identification, change impact assessments
- Support and emergent leading change management strategy & plans
- Support and emergent leading change networks, change leaders and change management teams
- Works with training & communication teams to build and deliver appropriate training & communications
- Will support developing and monitoring change metrics
- Support the business through go-live to ensure change resistance is managed and the solution is embedded into the business operations
- General Department & Team Management
- Works directly with a team of Business Analysts with dotted line leadership
- Provides support and guidance to Project Managers, business teams, and technology teams
- Provides input and collaborates in team processes concerning hiring, performance improvement plans/ reviews, promotions, salary recommendations and terminations
- Supports or leads communications programs that includes both formal and informal meetings, correspondence, and discussions with their respective business partners
- Promotes positive public and employee relations
- Demonstrates maximize positive and proactive impact on the organization, its people, and overall success
EXPERIENCE & SKILLSETS - Experience with Agile and Waterfall Development methodologies, and project management
- Experience in modeling business process through workflow design, user experience design, customer/employee journey mapping
- Experience in facilitation, business process modeling, user experience design and/or customer journey mapping
- Strong quantitative and analytical abilities with an understanding of the business
- A driven self-starter who can find footing and move forward through ambiguity when starting projects
- Highly adept at working through and influencing others. Ability to build consensus and work effectively with technical and non-technical colleagues to successfully execute initiatives in support of marketing and advancement goals
- Ability to work with minimal supervision, under pressure, with regular and frequent deadlines
- Can demonstrate ability to map business outcomes to project delivery and tying project outcomes back into business operations
- Strong people skills: Can easily develop business knowledge & relationships
- Mid-level consultation and facilitation skills. Shows up like an external consultant
EDUCATION - B.S. or equivalent degree in business, IT, marketing, experience design, business administration, or related field, associate's degree with experience will be considered
- 5+ years' applicable experience
- Certifications in Business Relationship Management (BSDP or CBSD), Project Delivery (PMP, CSM, CSPO) User Experience Design, and/or Organizational Change Management (CCMP or Prosci) preferred
