The mandate of this role is to support with acquisition credit risk strategies and policy for the Automotive portfolio to optimize risk/return within Global Risk Management to meet Canadian Banking strategic priorities.

In this role, you will be responsible for the following key items

  • Monitor key performance indicators and leverage insights to develop & implement strategy.
  • Maintain current and in-depth knowledge of Automotive retail lending policies, strategies, and market trends
  • Drive digital risk automation through integration of modern digital risk technology and client centric policy design
  • Continuously leverage new toolsets and techniques in day-to-day responsibilities


The Manager will work in close collaboration with centre of excellence teams, automotive business partners, risk technology, front-line technology teams, compliance teams, and external vendors to ensure credit strategies are implemented accurately and consistent with the Risk Appetite Framework. Candidate will also be expected to drive continuous improvement in technology design, deployment/testing techniques, and best practices in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

Strategy Development & Implementation
  • Develop credit risk strategies for Automotive finance portfolio, leveraging a data driven approach to approve credit, set credit limit, and recommend risk adjusted pricing
  • Ensure successful implementation of strategy changes within the adjudication engine and perform post implementation validation
  • Ensure the design of development process adheres to regulatory and governance requirements.


Change management & Technology
  • Drive digital risk automation through integration of modern digital risk technology and client centric policy design
    • Obtain subject matter experts in risk technology design, deployments, testing, validation processes across the retail footprint, especially using FICO DMP suites of software
    • Ensure strict adherence to deployment, testing, documentation, and release management processes, and provide effective challenge to key stakeholders where required
    • Perform post-implementation validation & track performance of digital risk implementation
  • Continuously leverage new toolsets and techniques in day-to-day responsibilities
  • Act as a change champion to transform the retail risk implementation model in alignment with ongoing technology migrations.


Portfolio Analytics and Oversight
  • Use a variety of Business Intelligence analytical and reporting tools (ex. SAS, SQL, Python, Power BI, Tableau) to provide dynamic reporting on key performance metrics to various stakeholders in GRM and business lines
  • Leverage existing portfolio monitoring and reports to drive insights, identify opportunities, and address any at-risk segments
  • Conduct Post-implementation validation of strategies implemented to ensure accurate implementation and alignment with expected results.


Automotive Financing Competitive Landscape
  • Stay informed of competitive landscape, partnering with the business line to ensure that as risk managers our processes, strategies and policies consider the changing landscape.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external business partners (e.g., OEMs, third party vendors, credit bureaus and dealer portals) where required, to support in strategy build, or technology support.


Support Business Line Initiatives/projects
  • Ensure all business line strategic projects (i.e., new product launches, changes to existing product offerings, new channels, new acquisition framework, changes to approval strategies) are consistent with Risk Appetite Framework. Identify opportunities and make recommendations
  • Represent Risk's point of view and liaise with the stakeholders (operations, product owners, collections, technology, governance) throughout the organization to listen actively, communicate, and explain risk measures clearly and as appropriate identify, evaluate, and address credit risk that arises from the development, deployment, interpretation, and maintenance of Credit Risk Policy in support of new products/program development, portfolio performance issues, product enhancements, changes to the industry and regulatory landscape, and business operations


Governance & Oversight
  • Support GRM effective challenge function, ensure Credit Risk Proposals are prepared with strong financial and quantitative analysis, and that risks are effectively assessed and measured.
  • Obtain an understanding of the Automotive Credit strategies and policy, recommend enhancements, and document new processes and workflows to support succession planning.
  • Support investigations and solutioning for questions/findings from OSFI and Internal Audit in an appropriate /acceptable timeframe.

  • A university degree is required (preferably a major with computer science, engineering economics, finance, or business)
  • 2+ years in retail lending, technology, or risk management experience required
  • Experience in FICO based technologies such as Originations Manager, Triad, Decision Modeler, Blaze etc. is a strong asset
  • Strong technical skills in database and analytics, and testing tools such as SAS, SQL, MongoDB, Tableau, Power BI, XML and Postman; experience with non-relational databases and working knowledge of programming languages such as NodeJS, python, Java etc. is a strong asset
  • Excellent communication and business writing skills complemented with solid logical/deductive reasoning, sound judgement and creativity
  • Strong personal time management skills and curiosity to learn, explore, and discover is a must
  • Functional knowledge of retail credit risk lifecycles, credit and behaviour scoring, credit risk model designs and applications
  • Familiarity with project management techniques and agile working framework is an asset
