Overview
Position Summary:

The primary job function is to manage the general ledger, understand journal entries, and ensure supporting work papers are complete and accurate to achieve timely and accurate reporting of financial information. Must understand a complex GL structures and procedures necessary for the GL close, including Cost Allocations, GAAP and Statutory Accounting Principles, and effects on individual financial statements.

State specific pay scales for this role are as follows:

$118,664 to $230,619 (CA, NJ, NY, WA, HI, AK, MD, CT, RI, MA)

$107,876 to $209,653 (NV, OR, AZ, CO, WY, TX, ND, MN, MO, IL, WI, FL, GA, MI, OH, VA, PA, DE, VT, NH, ME)

$97,089 to $188,688 (UT, ID, MT, NM, SD, NE, KS, OK, IA, AR, LA, MS, AL, TN, KY, IN, SC, NC, WV)

The expected base salary for this position will vary depending on a number of factors, including relevant experience, skills and location.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

- Lead a team of accountants and financial professionals. Ensure timely and accurate reporting of financial information to the Director of accounting and outside entities.

- Accountable for overall effectiveness and compliance with established accounting practices and procedures. Oversees timely completion of third-party statement reconciliations and prompt resolution of all items.

- Works in conjunction with state examiners and outside auditors to coordinate audits, prepare work papers, and gather pertinent financial information for annual audit reports.

- Analyzes operating results relative to established guidelines and takes appropriate action to improve performance, productivity, and effectiveness.

- Works with leadership to complete projects and requests from other business units.

- Leadership responsibilities include training and developing direct reports, providing coaching and documenting performance.

- Other functions may be assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

Required Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA certification preferred)

Experience:

5 years accounting experience, 2 of which must be in the insurance industry along with 2 years supervisory experience.

Skills and Abilities:

- Strong accounting principles and practices

- Proficiency in using accounting software and Excel

- Familiarity with Statutory and US GAAP

- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data

- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting

- Effective communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams

- Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work under pressure
