Full Job Description
Managed Services Presales Engineer FLSA Status: Exempt
Full-Time
Location: Dallas, TX

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
• Pre-Sales: Lead impactful customer presentations and equipment demonstrations on-site or virtually; work closely with sales to develop and nurture customer relationships while executing both strategic and tactical objectives; actively contribute to proposal creation and tailored solution presentations.
• On-Site Engagement: Attend on-site customer meetings as required, providing technical expertise, solution guidance, and ensuring alignment between client needs and proposed architectures. Travel to customer locations will be needed based on project requirements.
• Architectural Oversight: Provide Architect Level oversight on large, complex projects, ensuring best practices in design, implementation, and integration, while maintaining technical leadership throughout all phases of project delivery.
• Post-Sales: Deliver architect-level technical support during project startup and, when necessary, after implementation, guaranteeing a seamless transition and ongoing client satisfaction.
• Technical: Identify, position, and promote opportunities for MGT's MSP solutions, including Monitoring, Element Management, SIEM/SOC, and Managed VoIP/Cloud VoIP.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:

  • Strong knowledge of service delivery frameworks.
  • ITIL v4 (incident, problem, change, service level management) - foundational vocabulary for scoping managed services engagements.
  • Service catalog design (tiered service offerings, break/fix vs. proactive vs. fully managed models).
  • ITSM platforms (ServiceNow, ConnectWise, Autotask, Jira Service Management) - understanding how tickets, CMDB, and asset data flow into pricing and staffing models.
  • Detailed understanding of monitoring and remote management platforms
  • Network and endpoint monitoring and management platforms (Auvik, ManageEngine, ConnectWise).
  • SIEM/SOC integration for managed security services Monitoring stack design (infrastructure, network, application, cloud) and alert threshold/escalation design.
  • Patch management and automated remediation tooling.
  • Communicating MSP business cases and financial justifications.
  • Building TCO/ROI comparisons: internal IT cost (fully loaded FTE, tooling, training, turnover risk) vs. managed services investment.
  • Articulating cost avoidance (breach/downtime risk, compliance penalties, unplanned hiring) vs. hard cost savings.
  • Translating CapEx-to-OpEx shift implications for CFO/finance stakeholders.
  • Understanding customer's current cost-to-serve well enough to credibly challenge or validate it.
  • Positioning proactive/preventive value (patching, monitoring, capacity planning) against the customer's lived experience of reactive break/fix pain.
  • Quantifying "soft" value: reduced MTTR, improved employee productivity from fewer outages; freed-up internal staff redirected to strategic projects.
  • Competitive differentiation - articulating why this MSP/model vs. staying internal, vs. a competitor, or vs. a different service tier.
  • Developing and delivering customer presentations.
  • QBR (Quarterly Business Review) structure and metrics (SLA attainment, ticket trends, capacity/utilization).
  • Dashboarding/reporting tools (Power BI, native ITSM reporting) for demonstrating value beyond break/fix.
  • Root cause analysis (RCA) documentation standards.
  • Gross margin modeling for recurring services contracts (a different discipline than one-time project margin).
  • Understanding of managed services attach rates and how it affects overall deal profitability alongside product/project sales.
  • Contract term structures (auto-renewal, true-up/true-down for device counts, co-term alignment across merged contracts).
  • Working knowledge of adjacent practice areas (security, collaboration, datacenter/cloud, physical security) sufficient to identify managed services attach opportunities within a broader deal.
  • Ability to translate a prospect's current environment (device counts, ticket volume, existing tool sprawl) into a right-sized managed services proposal.
  • Building transition/onboarding plans (30-60-90 day) as part of the sales cycle, since customers want to see the operational handoff before signing.
